Can't tell if you are being serious...Fixer "flopped" in NBA because he tore both ACL's. The year he was healthy he averaged like 20 a game and was up for 6th man of the year. He could score at will, just like in college.

Hard to make that yeast rise with two blown ACLs

In regard to the OP...sign this kid.

If he comes here I'll have to deal with it. I really want us to get Okoro and Cook. And I would want Dingle or Staten. I've never seen him play though. People say he isn't very athletic.. then can he shoot?

This feels like the type of recruit we could one day be talking about the possibility of having his jersey retired. Bold prediction, but I see him passing Hoiberg in career points his senior year at Baylor. I trust that Fred did his scouting. I may want Okoro or Dingle more but I'd take Niang too.

Dude is gonna be a monster and game changer for ISU. Y'all can look back at this post and thank me. Lots of haters, but I'm standing here saying Niang's jersey will be hanging at Hilton some day and he will pass Fred Hoiberg in the all-time scoring list.

I bet there will even be people on twitter editing my post to make it look like I didn't predict it, but I'm 100% certain that today, March 16th, 2011, Georges Niang's jersey will eventually be hanging in Hilton.

If you read the linked ESPN article in Chris' story, you'll have the answer to your question.

When I read his "weaknesses" under ESPN I felt they copied and pasted it from Jordan Raileys. Why go after another Railey? I love Railey, don't get me wrong, but Railey will play more then him, and Railey is probably losing time next year. This guy wouldn't play at all until he was probably a junior. Just a waste of a scholarship in my opinion.

My only question here: Can Railey really lose time next year?

If we pencil in Royce for JVBs minutes, or most of them, and Booker gets in there a bunch, I see where you're going with the idea, but can Railey really play less?

From what I've read, while he may not be classified as "athletic", he has an extremely high understanding of positioning. Very good feet; can play both facing, and with his back to, the basket. Also, he can shoot it.

Obviously, I've never seen him play, though.

Unless Railey redshirts next year, which is possible, Niang would be a freshman when Railey is a junior, or even a senior if they decide to redshirt Niang. They really wouldn't be competing for a lot of playing time. This kid is only a junior in high school. Obviously the coaching staff believes he'd be more than a "waste of a scholarship" if they have offered him and are asking him to come visit.

I wonder how accurate those ESPN assessments are. I was reading about the 2011 PF that Lutz is recruiting (Montray Clemons) and they said he reminded them of Cleveland Melvin (class of 2010 and freshman for Depaul this year). Here is what ESPN said in their assessment of Melvin:

As expected, Melvin's biggest offensive contribution this weekend (National Prep Showcase) was by running and finishing in transition. He runs the floor like a deer and is an absolutely explosive athlete, able to catch the ball and get his head on the rim without breaking his stride. Melvin also went through spurts of being dominant on the glass this weekend, especially on the offensive end, as he rebounded in traffic as well as out of his area by showing a great nose for the ball. Melvin isn't going to be a scorer in the Big East, but if he can continue to put on muscle he could have a niche as a high energy role player who can use his mobility and athleticism to make plays around the rim on both ends. In addition to getting stronger, Melvin also needs to continue developing his overall skills with the basketball and become a more consistent free-throw shooter.

Melvin averaged 14.1 points per game for DePaul his freshman year and was named Big East Freshman of the year this year, which is a pretty big honor in that conference. If some other schools like A&M start to pursue Niang, I would put more stock in that as coaches have a better eye for talent than recruiting analysts.

ESPN is full of ****. Rivals is my favorite recruiting service. Scout is ok.

But above all else, when it comes to recruiting, ESPN sucks.

Here nor there
Imo Niang would be a great addition to to the program due to how he would complement what other players bring. A post with good back to the basket skills and shooting would go well with the run and jump athletes like Godfrey (and the recruits we are in on).

You got that he was a waste of a scholarship from reading a description from ESPN? :twitcy:

Posts like this just irk me. Name me the heap of freshman posts who are banging down ISU's door that are ready to make an immediate impact. There are only a handful of these guys every year. And if this guy is a good rebounder and passer that can get the break started, we need this guy.

You well might be right but go on the Iowa scout site and he sounds equally enthusiastic about Iowa and FM.

Well of course he does. What do you expect him to say, "I'm going to make a pity visit to (insert school), I have no interest in playing there but I want to see if they'll toss me a coed for the evening."?
