Yeah.. you lose a lot of space there. Yeah, our new video board is a lot larger than the old one, but if part of it is always ads then the difference in effective space is less (since the old ads werent part of the video board)

Thats where somewhere down the road it might be nice to widen the video screen by a section (it looked like there was plenty of space to do that and still have the speakers.. the speakers dont take up much space) and put the ads there.

Sure, there are ads there. But that doesn't mean that they have to be there ALL the time. I'm betting for big replays (which is what most people watch the board for anyway), they use the entire board. And you know damn well that there won't be ads on there when they are showing it to recruits. In the original renderings, they showed both the board with the ads and the full screen. And I've seen them do some full screen stuff since they turned it on.

That said, watching it get built, those speakers do not take up near the space behind those coverings. They could VERY easily move the speakers over to the far sections against the supports and extend the screen, giving ads their own permanent space will making the video part bigger. The support is done. And the screen is the less expensive part. I have no doubt that in 10 years, they'll do something like this. In the meantime, we have a kick-*** board...and people who haven't seen it in person won't understand until the do see it.

Not sure if it has been posted, but the webcam seems to be showing the layout of adds and scores on the board - to get a sense of how big it will be.

I see they have filled the base and created a sloped berm to macth the concrete cap of the base. Looks like prime hillside seats

What kind of ad revenue do we get from this scoreboard? And what did we get for the old one? Just curious.

Size looks great, structure looks great...I know it was briefly mentioned on another thread, but what about the brightness issue? All of these images are very hard to see.

Let me stress, for all of those out to shoot anyone with any question...I am not complaining, but it would be helpful to actually be able to see the video.

I must admit, I'm a bit disappointed. I questioned last week whether or not the time and score, and the ads still had to be displayed on the screen, and everyone basically said "yes, but it's still going to be huge."

Well, half of the span at least is speakers. And then you have ad space and the time and score on there too. So, is the actual video part that shows the plays, etc any bigger than the old one?

I guess I don't know why we don't put all the ads and the time and score on the old scoreboard and use the entire screen on the new one for video?

I know I'll get ripped for this, but the actual video screen that will show replays, etc. looks really small in comparison to the size of that immense structure. It is what it is I guess? Can't really change it now. It sure better sound unreal for all the space the speakers are taking up.

2851 sq ft vs 543 sq ft

Using the pictures in the renderings press release the ad space is ~30% of the video area of the new board. Given that really rough estimate:

1995 sq ft >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 543 sq ft

2,851 sq ft is the total area I believe? You need to subtract off all the ad space and the time and score part too. Probably around 1500-1800 sq ft I'd guess?
You still go to be disappointed with actual video size 3-4 times more and a better sound system?

Score/Time area was about 18% of the height. Ad space was about 30% of the width. Using those really rough calculations I get an area of 1650 sq ft.

I posted pictures in another thread of the video board during direct mid day sun. You could still see the screen fine from Reiman Gardens.

I would post the pictures again but I'm not at home.

Yes, it's totally improbable to think with a press of a button they can't use the entire video display to do replays (obviously with a frame on the replay but the point stands). You'd think some people in here were actually more intelligent than the designers. :skeptical:

To be fair, I don't see the designers on the Internet. If they were smarter, they'd have Internet time.
