I will be happy if BYU joins, and hope to make it out to a game out there.

Doesn't look like a bad place to watch a game. There were a lot of positive comments from the UNI fans that went there a few years ago.

The full exit fee penalty would be between $28 million and $31 million, according to Big 12 sources. But the Big 12 could withhold A&M's revenue for the 2011-12 academic year, which would total roughly $18 million.

In a related development, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick told reporters the Irish are more committed than ever to being an independent in football, quashing any potential of the Irish joining the Big 12 in the immediate future.

Big 12 sources say if Notre Dame is off the table, then there's probably no chance of adding Pittsburgh, another school that had been discussed by Big 12 presidents on their conference call Saturday after Loftin got off the teleconference.

If A&M leaves and BYU joins... I think that's a significant upgrade for the Big 12 IMO.

Salt Lake City is a big market, plus there are BYU fans all over the country. They're the Mormon version of Notre Dame.

Agreed. BYU is a bit further than Boulder, but just as or more scenic. Plus they have some nice BB tradition as well.

You mean kind of like last year how Nebraska, and then A&M, was more committed than ever to trying to make the Big 12 work? :jimlad:

In all seriousness, I agree that the chances of ND joining the Big 12 are longer than long. But, if there's any fire to go along with all this smoke, ND isn't just going to burn its bridges with the Big East and its non-revenue sports unless joining the Big 12 is a done deal.

A little less altitude as well compared to Boulder - 4,549 ft vs 5,430. Still needs a little bit of adjustment time, but not as bad

One thing I am convinced of, Dan Beebe needs removed immediately as Big 12 commissioner.

Eh. Its fun to joke about him, but in reality he can only do what the conference presidents let him do. And that appears to be very little.

If BYU declines, we are in real trouble. I just hope we have the answer soon.

I just don't think the Big 12 would be so quick to concede A&M without a fight if the other 9 conference commissioners didn't have something else up their sleeve. Something else is going on here, and I just don't believe for a second it's related to the demise of the Big 12 Conference.

I just don't buy this. Somehow does Slive, Delany, or Scott have more power than he does?

Look at it this way, the President actually has less power than congress, yet a good president gets stuff done. Same way with the conference commissioner.

I have no doubt that if Larry Scott took over the Big 12 instead of the Pac 12 we would still have Nebraska and Colorado, and probably be looking at utilizing the Big 14 moniker that we own the rights to.

Yeah, like that massive fight they put up last year when we lost TWO schools

Why bother for one more?

Well who really thinks BYU will join? Since ND said oh hell no big twelve and Pitt as well. Do you go after Air Force, Houston, and UNLV?

I can see taking one team if it is or was ND or BYU, but if both say no then you have to go for three.

If you can't see the difference between last year and this year, let me spell it out for you:

Last year, the conference was in factions - Mizzou, Nebraska, and Colorado looking out for their best interests, Texas, A&M, TT, Oklahoma, and OSU looking to join the Pac 16, previously with Baylor, then without them when Colorado beat them to the punch, and the Forgotten Four of ISU, KU, K-State and Baylor (after Colorado jumped them), and later Five after Mizzou got undercut by Nebraska. Last year you had no idea who was on who's side - it was basically every school for itself.

This year, it's A&M versus the rest of the 9 schools. You've had a bunch of idiots from down south implying that some combination of OU, OSU, and Mizzou are going to make the jump with A&M to join the SEC, but all you've heard out of Norman, Stillwater, and Columbia is DENY DENY DENY. All the other 9 schools have stated they are 100% committed to the Big 12. Last year nobody, including ISU (who had a viable scenario with the Big East), was 100% committed to the Big 12.

If you can't tell that this year feels completely different from last year, you aren't paying attention, which is why I'm led to believe something else is going on here.

What do you want the guy to do? aTm is still in the conference, until they officially leave there is NOTHING he can do/say publicly.

He would look like a total buffoon if he started spouting off schools the B12 was interested in only to have them shun the league.

The best thing he can do is continue to work with the AD's and Board of Directors (which includes Geoffrey) behind the scenes to have things in place so when aTm OFFICIALLY leaves the conference, there is a new member in place and a seamless transition.
