There is one team and its arrogance that is gonna implode the big 12....

The Texas Longhorns....

When you have one team who wants it all and needs it all for ego gratification this is the mess that ensues....

I said and nobody believed me when I said that A & M was still talking to the SEC...

Now I hear that Mizzou and its lovely Govenor is still making overtures to the big 10 and still getting punked by the conference hq in chi town....

Anybody want to bet me that after A & M leaves that Mizzou is NOT the next one to leave?

The stinking texas longhorns are on their road to independence and leaving their wreckage of the big 12 behind....

IMO, it will end up hurting Texas bad in the long run. And this is what is so frustrating to me. The fact they don't seem to see that. Independence is all fine and dandy, but I believe the march towards superconferences is going to make Independence a non-viable option. If you want to play for the NC you will have to come out of one of the conferences. If not, then it doesn't make sense to be in one of these conferences. Why go through the rigorous conference schedule, survive the championship game, getting beaten to hell doing it, all while Texas and ND are making up their own schedules on their road to the playoffs? You are better off Independent, that's why, imo the superconferences won't allow it.

Not to mention, good luck getting any real competition as an Indy. When you are playing a 9 game conference schedule, against competition that is surely to get better as other non AQ schools become even more irrelevent, why would you put ND and Texas on your schedule? You'd want to take two patsies at that point, when in the end, the only thing that really matters is getting to the conference championship. I suppose there would be some big TV money involved that would be nice inspiration, but I think in the end, when SOS doesn't mean as much anymore, most good teams are going to want tune up games.

Anyways, If that is Texas' ultimate goal, then the superconferences will end up forming and at that point, Texas will be forced to join a conference to have a legit shot at getting to the NC game. In the end, dismantling everything they are trying to do right now.

I would say it is TAMU's desire to get rid of Texas that is driving this whole thing. The reasons that were given initially (2nd conference game, HS games) have been fixed for the most part.

You just dont get it, what drove off Nebraska and Colorado and now aTm is that they want to be a full partner in the conference not just a fricking junior partner...

Look at the big 10 where nebraska moved ...The Ohio State Univ does NOT get One cent more of football money than does lowly Northwestern U....

The reason that every one wants to join the big 10 is because the conference is a full partnership conference...

SOMETHING THAT THE BIG 12 WILL NEVER BE....

Hey Longhorns shut out the lights to the big 12 office on your way out the door and down the road to INDEPENDENCE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, you are ignoring a great deal of history. Nebraska voted AGAINST equal revenue sharing in the XII thereby increasing texas power and ultimately pushing themselves out. Nebraska most definitely did NOT want an equal partnership big XII.

Dave Sittler: Texas' arrogance at heart of Big 12 drama | Tulsa World

Interesting...perhaps everything isn't so hunky-dory with OU and TX as they'd like us to believe.

A couple of great responses in the comments below the article...

This might be the worst piece of sports writing I’ve ever read. I agree that Texas is arrogant, but you said nothing to show how that arrogance has negatively impacted any other team. You also said that OU is “reportedly fed up with Texas seeing how far it can push others around with tactics like the Longhorn Network.” How is a network a tactic? How does it bully other schools? Would Texas object to an OU network?

This is so poorly written and so untrustworthy. You cite:
1) a source familiar with the Big 12 expansion committee
2) a source familiar with the BCS conferences
3) a source with deep roots in college football
4) some insiders

Sounds like you could have just spoken to a colleague or two.

You use “reportedly” and “apparently” a few times nicely, as if the statement or conclusion came from someone else and you didn’t just make it up.

Where was the editor? Or was this a “blog” piece in which a journalistic rules don’t apply?

Your Nebraska roots are showing here Dave! I know it is easy to hate on Texas here in Oklahoma. You need to appeal to your readers, but wake up and smell the coffee. I suspect if ESPN had offered the Sooners, Aggies, or Cornhuskers $300 million they would have taken it too, but the problem you have is that ESPN didn't, they choose Texas for a number of reasons primarily because they have a large alumni base and national following and state with 25 million people! Longhorn Network has a better chance of success given the market dynamics Texas brings than do any of the three previously mentioned schools. This is a good business decision for ESPN and it happens to benefit Texas. There is no guarantee the network will be successful, but if I were going to try it I would sure want to have a University like Texas as my partner than (no offense or should I say arrogance here) Nebraska, Oklahoma or A&M.

You claim that Texas ran off Nebraska, Colorado and now A&M. Please tell me how? Surely it was more than the fact that Texas had its way with those programs on the field, it had to be more than having the big 12 office relocated from Kansas City to Dallas. There had to be more to it than Texas suggesting the conference hold a higher academic standard with the banning of partial qualifiers. Mind you that the conference members all voted in favor of these policies and last time I checked Texas only had one vote! Boy, the nerve of those arrogant Texas SOB's.

Yes, Texas has more money, a fertile recruiting base, a wealthy alumni base across the country and a winning tradition that appeals to the powerhouse sports media, be honest with yourself and your readers this is what really bothers you the most about Texas. Don't claim arrogance as the reason for hating Texas. It is Jealously pure and simple!

Texas values its relationship with the Big 12 schools, none more than OU. What you failed to mention was that OU is working to launch their own network as well, you might pay attention to what The Daily Oklahoman is reporting, of course that doesn't make your article near as inflammatory towards Texas! Texas and OU will stay or go together, you can count on that!

The highlighted part above pretty much says everything that needs to be said regarding the motive of the author...

********. Both Nebraska and eATMe were perfectly content with unequal revenue sharing while it favored them. They didn't start complaining until they were on the short end of the stick. As late as last year eATMe was getting special deals with the CU/NU exit money.

CU ran away from fear plain and simple.

You have no idea what you are talking about.

And again, I think a lot of people fail to see the irony in this. A&M and Nebraska voted with Texas for years, preventing the partnership. Nebraska and A&M didn't want a partnership, they wanted to be the top dog. The problem was, Texas ended up being that dog. Now these teams can't stand playing second fiddle, so they are going where the power structure is a little more even. I think everyone knows why teams what to go to the big 10. What baffles me is why people keep acting like Nebraska and aTm were playing for anyone but themselves. If Nebraska were Texas right now, they'd be the ones here and Texas would be in the Pac 12. Please, don't think for a minute Nebraska really wants a level playing field if they could help it. They just didn't plan on their football team taking a dump the last 10 years.

So OU wants to blast Texas for the LHN when they, themselves were looking into creating a Sooner Network? That's rich.

Sure Texas arrogance has been a part of this mess, but A&M's inferiority complex and fans desires have been the bigger problem.

Nailed it. How could the 4 most powerful schools in the Big XII who already get a bigger portion of the revenue, get to set the conference up exactly how they want it, change the rules and bylaws how they want them, and pretty much run the entire show get into a ******* contest and blow the whole damn thing up? They are all mad at Texas for doing the same thing they were all trying to do it just happens that Texas got their first. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Way up there
+1 across the board...

As for why folks defend A&M...probably hate/jealousy of UT, and desire for the Big 12 to fail so ISU can go to the Big Ten, etc.

Exactly, people have such a defensive mentality against UT that they just have to be the ones to blame. While they aren't completely innocent here, they are only 1 of the schools to blame. I don't get why the other schools skate the blame. If this were KU, Kstate, ISU, or Mizzou crying fowl like A&M i could see defending them but this is a completely different deal. A&M is just as guilty as UT, but since they were the one to point the finger everyone sides with them.

From Barking Carnival:

Mondays In the Humidor | Barking Carnival

Realignment Update
We talked to the Big Cigar about the situation here and nothing has happened as of now that has soured him on the information he’s passed along. He reported that the penalty to withdraw for A&M would be between $20-$40 million, and reports are out there now indicating that the number is $28 million and would be paid in withdrawn TV revenue. Check. He reported that the going would get a lot easier for the Aggies once Texas placated Baylor’s litigious appetite with some assurances behind the scenes. All’s quiet on the lawsuit front after some furious bluster earlier in the month from our friends in Waco. Check. The drop dead date for the Aggies to leave without incurring further penalties was September 1st. We hear that’s a check as of yesterday.
So far the report has been eerily accurate despite what you may hear from other sources. The only hole in the information seems to be Notre Dame and BYU joining or affiliating with the conference in some form but don’t be fooled by preliminary reports. BYU and ND are still very much in play.
We’ve heard the only problem for both schools aligning with the Big 12 is the other sports scenarios in the short run. ND is kicking around the idea of coming as a football only affiliate and leaving basketball in the Big East. This creates a problem for the Big 12 because BYU wants to honor its other sport commitment to WCC for the next three years, leaving the Big 12 in lurch as far as hoops goes in the short term because they’ll be one team short. If there’s a Big East implosion, then all of these issues become moot because Texas, UND, and OU will just start picking the like-minded crème de la crème programs around the country, but that won’t happen this year.
In fact, none of this is going to happen overnight so ignore the AD’s and talking heads for now. BYU, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, and Texas are VERY much in this together and have been contingency planning for over a year. Stay tuned.

Been doing this for over a year? So what about last years Big 12 reaffirmation? This just seems like total BS.

Still don't understand why BYU would like to honor its other sports commitment to the WCC when they could become full fledged Big 12 members NOW.

The OU, TU, ND super duper stupid (unless we are in it) conference would really throw a curve ball at the whole situation.

They wouldn't be mutually exclusive. I read that as saying those four schools would use the Big 12 as a basis for their new super conference.

I'm not sure if we are transitioning to super-conferences or not but it looks like we may be transitioning to football-only conferences. That actually makes more sense to me.

Don't forget, aTm was a school that voted to bring in the Boise Humanitarian Bowl as one of the league's invites, and would later stay home rather than attend when they were in position to go.

I just don't understand why any conference supporter would feel sorry for the Big 12's bratty child.
