There is one team and its arrogance that is gonna implode the big 12....
The Texas Longhorns....
When you have one team who wants it all and needs it all for ego gratification this is the mess that ensues....
I said and nobody believed me when I said that A & M was still talking to the SEC...
Now I hear that Mizzou and its lovely Govenor is still making overtures to the big 10 and still getting punked by the conference hq in chi town....
Anybody want to bet me that after A & M leaves that Mizzou is NOT the next one to leave?
The stinking texas longhorns are on their road to independence and leaving their wreckage of the big 12 behind....
IMO, it will end up hurting Texas bad in the long run. And this is what is so frustrating to me. The fact they don't seem to see that. Independence is all fine and dandy, but I believe the march towards superconferences is going to make Independence a non-viable option. If you want to play for the NC you will have to come out of one of the conferences. If not, then it doesn't make sense to be in one of these conferences. Why go through the rigorous conference schedule, survive the championship game, getting beaten to hell doing it, all while Texas and ND are making up their own schedules on their road to the playoffs? You are better off Independent, that's why, imo the superconferences won't allow it.
Not to mention, good luck getting any real competition as an Indy. When you are playing a 9 game conference schedule, against competition that is surely to get better as other non AQ schools become even more irrelevent, why would you put ND and Texas on your schedule? You'd want to take two patsies at that point, when in the end, the only thing that really matters is getting to the conference championship. I suppose there would be some big TV money involved that would be nice inspiration, but I think in the end, when SOS doesn't mean as much anymore, most good teams are going to want tune up games.
Anyways, If that is Texas' ultimate goal, then the superconferences will end up forming and at that point, Texas will be forced to join a conference to have a legit shot at getting to the NC game. In the end, dismantling everything they are trying to do right now.
