I'd just like to point out that Texas Tech really doesn't fit into any other major conference besides the Big 12. They aren't qualified academically to be accepted by Cal and Stanford into the Pac-12, and the ACC is a little bit above their academic level as well. (besides the fact that Lubbock is 1500 miles to most of the rest of the ACC schools).
I've also seen it suggested that VT could possibly be a target for the SEC, or maybe even West Virginia. I would also find it incredibly difficult to believe that the Virginia General Assembly (legislature) would allow UVA and VT to split. There was a major issue with getting VT into the ACC in the first place, as Syracuse didn't garner enough votes to be accepted into the ACC back in '02 or '03, and the President of UVA (under major pressure from state delegates) suggested they add VT.
