Oh boy, here we go...don't know how this may affect us good or bad yet, but this was just posted in the other thread...

Pitt, Syracuse send ACC letters of application - CBSSports.com

The Atlantic Coast Conference has received letters of application from Pittsburgh and Syracuse, a high ranking league official told CBSSports.com. The ACC also has recently been contacted by 10 schools, the official said. However, they would not disclose what conferences those schools were from.

Also, at last week’s ACC presidents meeting in Greensboro, N.C., the league’s presidents “unanimouslyâ€￾ voted to increase the ACC’s exit fee to $20 million. This takes affect immediately.

The New York Times reported Friday that Syracuse, Pitt and the ACC had been in talks about the two Big East schools joining the league. Representatives from all three declined comment to the Times.

ACC commissioner John Swofford has said previously that the ACC will always be mindful and do what’s best for its member institutions.â€￾

Yeah this is bad. One thing we've learned is that applications aren't sent without reason. This thing is shaking out bad for ISU, no question.

Big East merger option likely out if this comes to pass.
Big 12 additions of strong teams also unlikely to happen, IMO.

Man the lifeboats!

Getting pretty Eeyorish.......

The big elephant in the room in all this is Notre Dame. If West Virginia goes to the SEC, Pitt and 'Cuse to the ACC, I doubt the Big East survives. Where does that put Notre Dame??????????????

I think we can also say that the odds of lawmakers getting involved goes way up if all of the sudden the Big East folds and the Big East BB tourney in New York City is gone. I bet there are a lot of people with political pull who would be super upset if that tourney in the Big Apple is suddenly gone.

Not to mention how upset all the BB members of the Big East are going to be and how much of a stink they'll put up to lawmakers.

The Big East could survive as a BB Conference. The Football schools could merge with the Big 12. Better contracts. It is going to be an interesting year.

Yeah, it could survive, but look at who the BB only members are other than Notre Dame

DePaul
Providence
Seton Hall
Marquette
Villanova
Georgetown
St. Johns

If you take out all the FB schools, how attractive is that going to be to Notre Dame? I'm not quite too sure...Nova and Georgetown are your only perennial powers with St. Johns and Marquette as your other usually decent teams.

I don't think it is all bad. There is a LOT of talk about the forgotten/faithful five (or whatever you want to call them) NOT dissolving the conference and collecting exit fees which could be anywhere from $60m to $100m depending on how many teams leave. The Big East leftovers would be looking for a landing place and the Big 12 has a $90 million tv contract that FOX will probably have to honor due to conflict of interest if OU goes to PAC 12.

Big 12 would keep AQ status under this scenario also. Big east did with 5 teams when VT, UM and BC left.

Will, it be as strong of a conference? Not in football, but more competitive. We would still have FOX contract and keep ESPN/ABC contract until 2015. That is $150m a year. If we have 12 teams, that is 12.5m a year. A new Big 12 network would also be more likely at this point which would probably bring in a couple million more.

In 2015 when the ABC contract is up, I would expect it to renew for at least as much as current ABC because NBC is wanting content and they are already locked out of other 3 conferences. They could show an NBC game of the week (at a time slot not conflicting with ND) and also do a game on VS ( being rebranded as NBC Sports).

As for BB, it would be a pretty good league if it has the Big East leftovers of:

Cincy, L'ville, UConn, USF, TCU and Rutgers (assuming WVU to SEC)

If It is just 5 leftover Big XII teams, we would also need to add a 12th team (BYU, Memphis, Houston)

They would add more schools that don't play FBS football like
Xavier
Butler
UMass
Rhode Island

It definetly would be a different in MSG, but so would UConn playing in KC.

Totally agree. There are two ways this could go

1. If OU stays, the Big 12 can have whoever's left in the Big East (plus BYU probably) and go to 10, 12, or however many you want to get to

2. If OU leaves, there are a good chance that there will be enough leftovers between the Big 12 and Big 10 to form a new conference because I don't see the Big 10 expanding right now, and I still question whether the PAC accepts Kansas and Kansas State as 15/16. I just don't see Texas and TT going to the PAC either with all they've indicated.

Yeah, I think the Big East BB schools will stay together and they'll call it the Big East, but it'll be a shell of its former self. Is Notre Dame okay with the olympic sports playing UMass, Rhode Island, DePaul, Seton Hall, etc...or do they move too?

I think it'd be funny that if everybody got upset across the country about every conference being changed that somebody actually did something and A&M stayed in the Big 12 after all this time and make like 20,000 posts on this thread.

ISU and Baylor reaching out to Big East just scrolled on GameDay. Hope this is just JP doing his due diligence. Big East wasn't preferable before Pitt and Syracuse were trying to bolt, now it's even worse.

Huge Problem for K-State Fans

Tale of the Tait | Fan blogs | KUsports.com

Quick update on the New York Times report about Syracuse and Pitt conducting talks with the ACC. I'm hearing now that this will happen and that the ACC will make the announcement sometime Sunday.
It is believed that the ACC is serious about not getting left out in the cold on all of this expansion stuff. Them making the first bold move like this would certainly indicate that.
What's more, the rumors are roaring that the league would like Texas and Kansas to become the 15th and 16th members. There's a lot of stuff that would need to happen before we reach that point. And just because the ACC wants those two schools doesn't mean the ACC will get them.

Notre Dame is heading to the B1G if Kansas is team #16 for the ACC, with most likely Rutgers, Uconn and Mizzou.

But good for us. Cut the cords between KU-KSU and OU-OSU and ISU has much better options as an additional 4mil TV sets.
