I haven't read all 730 pages of the thread but has anyone placed any blame on the original Big 8?

They kind of sold their soul to the devil in 1996 when they formed the Big 12 and invited Texas et all in to what was a stable league with an identity.

They broke up the old SWC and I don't remember too many ISU fans having too much sympathy for TCU, SMU, Houston, etc. Along the same lines, Baylor had no problem hitching a ride into the league back then...how can they whine when other schools hitch a ride out of the league 16 years later?

I think a lot of the blame needs to go to the founders of the Big 12 and their lack of progressive thinking relating to first class TV contracts. The league was constantly behind the times with football on tv and they are paying the ultimate price right now.

Yes, because that would be time well spent

The school I feel a bit sorry for right now is TCU. They were going to finally get that AQ status, it cost them getting Boise State at home this year and now the Big East has lost 2 schools including the main school(pitt) that was the big pusher for TCU's inclusion

Let me be clearer. Rutgers is talking to the B1G and they believe they will get an invite.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I've heard absolutely nothing about the Big 10 possibly expanding until now...almost post #12000. I understand that the move today changes the game, but I just can't believe the Big 10 is going to have a kneejerk reaction to other people. Plus, if the Big 10 wants Rutgers, who else is going to take them? The ACC, the SEC? Doubt it...nobody is going to steal Rutgers from the Big 10 if the Big 10 wants them.

One of the authors I trust most is Jon Wilner. I know that this is 11 days ago, and today changes the game, but he wrote this 11 days ago at the end of his article

BCS football: Realignment update (Pac-12 CEOs don’t want to expand) | College Hotline

The Big Ten won’t expand until it’s time to renegotiate the league’s deals with ABC and ESPN, which expire in 2016, according to a source.

At that point, if the Pac-12 and the SEC have grown to 16 teams, then Notre Dame will join the Big Ten.

for the first time in all of this, I am now resigned to the probability this isn't going to end well...Texas, Tech, OU and OSU likely head west, A&M to the SEC leaving KSU, KU, ISU, Baylor and Mizzou. KU and Mizzou probably have a chance at the Big 10, Mizzou might have a chance at the SEC...KState, ISU and Baylor are almost certain outsiders. Can't see the ACC jumping several states to take any of the Big 12 schools unless Texas is included, but no way I can see texas goes that directon. A merger of the Big East Leftovers and Big 12 Leftovers is temporary until the SEC and Big 10 complete their Expansion...Gotta hope the threat of massive litigation somehow shapes this thing and we find a seat...

Let me say this again:

The B1G is down to 6 expansion candidates now. They are Notre Dame, Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Rutgers and ISU.

If Texas goes to PAC 16 and Rutgers goes to ACC, then they are down to 4. So either we are in Big East/Big 12 hybrid for the long haul or if Big 10 expands, we will be one of those schools.

Yep those are my fears too. The ACC pre-emptive strike was amazing. I was always thinking the B1G had something up their sleeve and might strike out of the blue; they've been so quiet. The other thing we've heard next to nothing from is the Mtn West. I'm wondering if BYU, UNLV, CSU, AF, etc might be in play along with TCU, Houston, etc.

no sympathy here, every non-AQ that is promoted is one last spot at the table for ISU...this was/is the biggest issue of holding on in our current state, sure its our best option now but if the likes of TCU and others got promotions during that time, it ultimately will have cost us being in a BCS conference. again, only way I see ISU coming through this remotely close to whole is IF there is justification behind the massive lawsuit threat, only those that are left out have contractual damages they can claim...the more that are left out the better our case will be. Best case now seems to be the BCS concedes to allowing a 5th conference with remnants from the forgotten, if that happens AND we sue, we get the money as if we remained where we are and an EASIER path to better bowls and championships. We need KU, KSU, Missouri and Baylor to be included in that. Missouri has the best shot of getting saved from this madness, KU next but I think no matter what KSU and ISU will be playing for years somewhere.

My latest thoughts on landing spots for Big 12:

Texas, Iowa State, Missouri (and Notre Dame) to Big Ten

Texas A&M and Texas Tech to SEC

Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Kansas State to PAC 12

Baylor=****ed

It cracks me up when people act like experts on this. We're all just guessing and speculating at this point. You don't have any insider info about who the B10 is or isn't considering.

I would like to see this come down to a "selection Sunday" show like they do for the NCAA bball tourney. All the university AD's and presidents sitting in big leather chairs watching TV in their running suits with CBS's cameras on them as they show the conference brackets. Breaking down bubble universities, etc. Bet they could make a few bucks on that.

At least it would end quickly

Remember...OU is our best friend through all of this :jimlad:

Anybody ever read "The Big Short" by Michael Lewis? This whole situation and being dependent on Texas and OU reminds me of an anecdote from that book.

When a Wall Street firm helped him to get into a trade that seemed perfect in every way, he asked the salesman, “I appreciate this, but I just want to know one thing: How are you going to **** me?”

Heh-heh-heh, c’mon, we’d never do that, the trader started to say, but Danny, though perfectly polite, was insistent.

We both know that unadulterated good things like this trade don’t just happen between little hedge funds and big Wall Street firms. I’ll do it, but only after you explain to me how you are going to **** me. And the salesman explained how he was going to **** him. And Danny did the trade.

I just want to know, Texas and Oklahoma, how are you going to **** ISU?

say it as many times as you want, if it happens - its awesome, but the Big 10 does not have a history of adding teams that are average/below average historically in Football. Nebraska was only football, Missouri was the better overall choice, maybe we get in as part of the settlement between the plaintiffs with damages, but there is no reason to think the invite is coming, if the big 10 wants to step in and blow up the ACC's plans, they will...the addition of Iowa State just takes 1/13th of the current teams revenue, no one is going to vote for that...unfortunate as it is,
