There must be something I am missing because from where I sit there is absolutely ZERO reason for the Big XII to implode other than... well everyone else is moving so we should too???

Please, someone, anyone, explain to me why this would be a good move for OU or UT? I can't come up with one good reason.

Have you seen the committee appointments Grassley and Harkin hold? You can like them or not, but to say they are less powerful than other senators.... I can't imagine it.

True, I get that. I'm guessing their stick would be something along the lines of revoking the tax exempt status of conferences and/or the NCAA.

But they would have to convince at least a majority of whatever subcommittee might take this up, then get a majority US senators to vote for whatever legislation they come up with, then have the House pass it. Not likely, IMO.

This would be a months-long process, and the horses will be miles from the barn at that point. But maybe the specter of it would be enough to cause university lawyers to pause for a minute. But I doubt it. Just my opinion.

It's not that's the worst aspect of this situation.

Can the Big 12 stay together minus Texas? Is that a possibility?

You'd think OU would like a conference without Texas in it, right?

Holy crap calm down. Find mute button on your computer. Press it. Alternately...find volume knob on your external speakers. Turn them all the way down. It's annoying, but it's not this rant worthy.

Now, back to the topic.

*Edit* Forgot about changing my avatar last night, might as well take advantage.

<----You sound like this

I listen to streaming radio when I'm on the computer and I'm not changing that.

Try Pandora or others like iHeart radio ... try it and you'll like it (get good speakers and you won't need a stereo anymore)

So, I did find a way to turn off the sound ads so thought I would spread the word. This works for now, like a virus I'm sure it will morph and come back in some other evil incarnation but if you want to shut that crap off for now:

Install Ad-Block-Plus. It blocks most ads but not the virus being spread from here so you need to create a custom block. In the title bar of the page there is small icon for ABP, click it and select "Easy create filter" then scroll down to bottom where the sound Ads are blasting from. The area should be sort of greyed out, so click it and it will create a custom block for where ever that ad is coming from. Seems to work for now. What a relief every time that announcer started yelling thru my speakers I about jumped out of my chair !!!

I think the Ax is about to fall and things are changing fast so would love to keep in touch via CF but my frustration level is to the point that I need a break so I'm gonna step away for awhile. Things will probably be different by tonight and most certainly will be different after the OU BOR meets on Monday.

In the Big East however, Pittsburgh and Syracuse acted with duplicity. These schools were secretive in their maneuvering and particularly in submitting applications to switch conferences. Whether acting independently or collaboratively, Pittsburgh and Syracuse could not mistake the detrimental impact of their actions on their fellow Big East schools. The manner in which these two schools acted was deceitful and reprehensible.

As a result of being blindsided, the welfare of the entire Big East Conference – institutions, players, students and fans – has been jeopardized unfairly. It speaks volumes, too, that the ACC would accept these applications in the same furtive manner in which they were submitted.

If Pittsburgh and Syracuse wanted to wager on a brighter future in the ACC, that’s their prerogative. But the move should have been done above board. As developments continued to pour in throughout the day, it was revealed that Big East Commissioner John Marinatto learned of the news in the Byrd Stadium press box before the noon kickoff of the Maryland – West Virginia game.

Hopefully, Marinatto’s first action was to call the remaining Big East football programs – Cincinnati, Connecticut, Louisville, Rutgers, South Florida, West Virginia and incoming Texas Christian – to elicit a pledge of unity. His next move should have been to Texas, and the remaining Big 12 teams – Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri and Texas Tech – asking them to rally around the idea of combining the two conferences.

This is the kind of press you get when your school acts like a bunch of ********!!!

I can't imagine the conferences and school presidents would like to be called into senate hearings and testify. At the end of the day, I don't expect congress to do anything either. But if anyone could, our two have the appointments to do it.

On the other hand, if a bunch of schools lose BCS status, I could see a group of senators band together. Threats on anti-trust issues might do something. Might, I said.

Including us if you believe the BE reports. Dont we look stupid now. This sucks.

Huh? What are you talking about? The Big East said we contacted them about possibly joining if the Big XII fell apart. That doesn't make us look stupid at all. Trusting that the conference will stay together is what would make us look stupid.

There is a reason that Texas BOR is 2 hours after Oklahoma that's because Texas wants to know what OU is going to do

When are these meetings scheduled for? Sorry if it's posted somewhere in this thread, but at the rate this thing grows, I could go back 10 pages to look and never get caught up.

Big XII needs a New Commissioner

The current leadership is twiddling their thumbs while other conferences poach our members. We should have been the ones doing the poaching all along.
