I think Condoleezza Rice should be approached. Her dream job is to be the NFL commissioner. What a great stepping stone would this be? Fix this mess and make it stronger than ever and head to the NFL.

This. And she leads Jack Donaghy around by the nose, and what can he bring?

That's right. Kabletown money.

With all due respect. You are a million miles off on this one.

Feel free to explain how, instead of yet another vague statement. OU doesnt care about us. They were one of the votes for years to make things unequal, and now they complain that conference members were treated unequally by Beebe? Give me a break.

I didn't really read it as that. I read it as if the Big 12 gets rid of Beebe and changes the written agreements of the conference they will stay. Whether this will all happen is another question, and if it doesn't they are gone.

What I mean is that it it won't happen. They are basically setting it up to pound the final nails in the coffin and make sure all the blame gets placed on UT/Beebe.

I hope I'm wrong.

But lets say that Texas is evicted out of the conference. get BYU, WV or whatever 3 teams they can get with a more equal money sharing deal more like the big 10 would there be that much less money for a Oklahoma? Not sure about that. Yes the Conference may not have as much money, but Texas wouldn't get to take what they want first.

In my dream world, I would go back in time and kick Texas out before letting A&M, NU, and CU leave. This would have allowed OU, NU, and A&M to be the signature teams and would keep the Texas market for the Big 12....and I bet getting rid of the big bad wolf would have convinced the other big shots that equal revenue sharing would work best. I would then add the best program available to get back to 12 teams. UT could go independent or stick their heads up their ***** or whatever they wanted to do. If independent, they could keep their rivalry games with A&M, OU, etc.

What that article said to me was that OU and OSU are already gone and are just trying to get out in front of it by saying they "tried" to make it work. The big12 is cooked.

I don't know...what it says to me is that they either:

1. Have their Pac 12 invite in hand and want to legislate a bunch of rules just in case UT goes for it (like low-balling an offer on a new house).

or

2. The Pac 12 rejected UT's LHN offer and now UT lost their leverage, so OU is taking the power.

This post gets my vote for the best "I'm Clueless" post of the day. What that article said was less about Beebe and more about telling Texas that equity is a must in the new BIG XII. Equity is required for stability with the current members and growth of key new members. It is what will keep the others from leaving.

WHAT?!? Looks like more of "Texas runs the place" mentality. OU has the cards to leave and kill the conference, why would they make a demand like this that still provides Texas an advantage over the other schools?

If you want to negotiate you have to be willing to make concessions. Don't be short sighted. This deal would only last 20 years, and it would benefit everyone equally in the long run. This would allow both sides to feel like they won something in the long run. Texas already has more money then everyone by a long shot, so this is less about money and more about power and control.

The beef with the LHN is more about exposure and how it pits the Longhorn's and ESPN's interest against everyone else's interests in this conference.

A Big XII network that serves all members would be in the best interest of stabilizing this conference even if Texas got a bigger share for the near term.

I already did in post #48 above. In short, Boren = our best friend. Well his partnership with GG and a few others is.

Awesome! This was exctly my first thought also. She's currently at Stanford, will they let her go? This interim commish will have a real challenge.

How anyone could argue otherwise is beyond me, save Texas because they are Beebe's puppet master

If that was the intent of the article, then it was a complete and utter failure, and whoever is developing this "stratgey" to force UT's hand (as you keep suggesting) has made another huge blunder. As you can see, most everyone is focusing on the comments about Beebe, and not on the equity issues.

What the article said about Beebe was quite accusatory, and those comments cannot be swept away. The comments from the "sources" basically blame him for the NU departure and other inappropriate activity (fixing the meeting agendas in UT's failure). If those things are really true, the university presidents (including Boren and Loftin) look like idiots for not firing him. And if they don't fire him should the new reformed Big 12 survive, they'll look even worse. Every president is going to get questioned about those accusations.

Also, Beebe was told last week that he would be out and there are others behind the scenes running the league to keep it together.

That actually makes a lot of sense. I guarantee the amount of leadership shown from the commissioner's office would triple overnight.
