Exactly. And I get telling your supervisor first - not what I would have done, but I can see it. But just looking the other way as it was covered up? Seeing that ******* Sandusky in the halls and not beating the **** out of him? How can he do that? He continued to see an active, sick predator of children every day, and just... Let it go.

JoePa was not the WORST in this, but he is still despicable.
Exactly. I can understand not calling the cops, I'm not going to pass judgement on that because I wasn't there, I don't know the exact circumstances. I can't say with 100% certainty that I would have called the cops, but I can be damn sure say I wouldn't have let things continue like it was all roses and sunshine. To just pass the buck and then continue on in life like absolutely nothing was wrong is where Paterno acted like a despicable human being, not because he didn't report it to the police.

Precisely. I mean, nobody is saying Paterno should have hog-tied Sandusky and delivered him to the cops himself, but he just turned his head and acted like it was nothing. Meanwhile, children who were already underprivileged and exploited were being molested and raped in HIS OWN LOCKER ROOM.

Re: Paterno to retire at seasons end

Trust me, he'll be on the field this Saturday. And the students will chant his name and carry him after the end of the game. Just watch.

I don't think so. I cannot imagine that the board or whoever is left deciding things can allow that to happen. Every image of him connected to their university prolongs the national disgust with the management of their school.

Maybe you just don't read the news, but JoePa admits he was told of something of a sexual nature between Sandusky and a 10-year-old boy. It doesn't matter what the act was, if it was sexual. It was his moral responsibility to call the cops.

I get that you get all tingly for sports icons, whatever. JoePa ADMITTED he knew it was sexual. I am not ignorant, I am appalled and sickened at what happened to DOZENS of children that could have been halted by Paterno. I find it revolting that you find him innocent with what he has admitted to knowing - and it is ridiculous to think he didn't know more.

"If this is true we were all fooled, along with scores of professionals trained in such things,..." - Paterno on Sunday. I hope that in time (soon) we hear what this comment means.

Paterno testified under oath that McQueary had said that Sandusky was engaged in fondling or "doing something of a sexual nature" to a boy.

Joe's own words in his grand jury statement. He knew something sexual had been alleged between Sandusky and a young boy. The "He didn't know! We were all fooled!" defense doesn't fly. He knew.

What more did Joe need to hear before he separated himself from Sandusky? Still, he was on campus, just last week. Did Joe think that the allegations weren't true? Couldn't be. The University barred Sandusky from bringing kids on campus. That alone, should have been confirmation that the allegations weren't baseless. He did nothing. He looked the other way. He fiddled. And that's the best case scenario.

He did the legally right thing, but the morally right thing he did not.

Catch 22 for the Board. Paterno's name is all over campus and he's been really generous to the University. Plus he "resigned" instead of getting "fired". I also think that there will be a lot of sportcasters praising him and showering him with adulations and "how unfortunate things became for JoePa, a great coach".

You don't even know what he was referring to. Is he implying that somebody in charge of the investigation told him that it was taken care of? Was he told that it was baseless? Nobody knows yet.

Doesn't this all sound oh so familiar? Was it not that long ago a certain university mishandled a rape case?

http://chronicle.com/article/U-of-Iowa-Mishandled-Rape/41645

I am attempting to no pass judgment on something I don't know all the facts to, nor will I probably know all the facts. But if these two incidents are handled incorrectly, what else do these athletic departments have hidden up their sleeves? They seem to enjoy living in moral ambiguity.

what do you mean, "You don't even know what he was referring to."? He was describing what McQueary told him and what he passed along to his "bosses."

He knew that the allegations related to acts of a sexual nature with a minor. He testified to it, under oath.

There is no debate to this. They are his words.

That link posted about Grand Jury testimonies was so graphic I skimmed down to 7 and 8 and could not read more than 2 paragraphs into Victim 8. What would drive a grown man to perform such acts knowing full well it could damage his reputation as well as the universities, and get him thrown into jail, is beyond me. I hope that does not adversely effect the way those men act as adults. God Bless them.

You're debating the wrong point. You responded to my post showing Paterno's quote. He said that they were all fooled. He wasn't describing what McQueary told him when he said "we were all fooled". Fooled by whom? And I don't necessarily think that this comment is directly related to Sandusky fooling them. Was Paterno fooled into thinking that it had been dealt with?

I wrote a rant on this early this morning, but the first draft had more f-bombs in it than a phone conversation between Samuel L. Jackson, Richard Pryor AND Eddie Murphy. Later, I calmed down and "substituted" alternatives for all the profanity (save one f-bomb and a reference to StBCoS) and posted it.

Not safe for work if your company has an "absolutely no profanity" policy:

I see, so you think that someone fooled Paterno, and many other administrators, into thinking that the Sandusky issue was over. Sandusky was barred from bringing kids on campus. Problem solved, right? Situation over. No need to ask questions.

You're really stretching, here.
