Sledge?

I am simply saying we have a player that supposedly dominated AAU basketball, who was called "the best PG in NYC" by some coaches. And everyone seems to think we lack a point guard. So doesn't it make sense to at give it a try? If we were getting good PG play I would have no problem with him sitting on the bench and learning.

If we had a reasonably talented football team, and the QB was clearly hurting us, we would make a change. No doubt our coaches have forgotten more than any of us will ever know, but I would give Sledge some meaningful minutes and see what happens.

Only if the backup was able to better the situation. Why can't you just assume Sledge isn't good enough to be playing at the moment? Players don't always pan out. And the ones that do, don't always pan out right away. Bo Williams anyone?

Watching the way we play on the offensive end in most of these games, it's not going to get worse. Will guys stand around more because Sledge is in the game?

I'm simply saying that this offense right now is not going to look worse with Sledge. Maybe a couple of turnovers instead of bad shots, but that adds up to the same lack of productivity. At best, it turns out the kid has something to offer, at least for a few minutes a game.

Once again. Things can always get worse, even when you think they can't. And I don't think players should just be handed playing. They have to earn. How do we know that he's earned any minutes in practice. Judging by how he doen't put him in until the last minute of games we are clearly going to win, maybe he doesn't deserve playing time.

Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't. Put him in and find out. With an offense that goes for minutes on end without scoring, the worst he'll do is run an offense that goes for minutes on end without scoring. Maybe the kid adds some life to a largely lifeless team.

What I mean by earning playing time is giving it your all in practice. What kind of message are you sending to your team if you play a slacker just to see what happens. He seems very disinterested to me when I watch him in warmups and that facebook thing doesn't bode well for his attitude either.

Quite simply, that Facebook thing is a bunch of crap. A college freshman was disappointed that he didn't play in a game. Clearly the baddest of bad apples, because nobody ever vents their feelings on Facebook. Nobody.

What message does it send to continue to send the same guys out to run the same ineffective offense? It doesn't matter if you do make the effort because nothing's going to change?

Neither of us is there for practice, but that can easily be argue both ways.

The message it sends is that he believes in them and believes they are the most worthy and capable. I guess I'm just different but that's good enough for me because I don't see the players in practice everyday.

What kind of message do you send to your team when you allow a guys to stand around on the floor, not hustle, block out or make the extra pass? I think other than Bubu, McGee everyone on the floor looks uninterested. Forget it, lets just stay with what we are doing..maybe it will work out.

Someone forgot to tell UNI's freshmen. They kicked our ***, no adjustment time necessary. All much-less heralded recruits, too.

Not positive but I think all of their freshmen are redshirt freshmen and after a year of facing a Ben Jacobsen coached defense in practice every day they are probably more than ready to step into D-1 play.

Unfortunately, we're going to have to stay with what we're doing, for the most part. We've got to put our most talented players out there, and hope they figure out. I've seen some glimpses of good basketball, and I personally think they can get it going before conference play. We'll see, though.

Yes, because they are much more comfortable watching Scotty turn the ball over and Chris Allen chuck up terrible shots.

And you know Sledge is better at these things based on what? If you're one of the coaches please don't blow your cover over this.

He doesn't. What he's saying is that they can't/shouldn't be comfortable with what they've seen so far.

No. Look at his post. He made a sarcastic comment insinuating we'd be better off playing Sledge who is a worse player. Wait...I think I get it now. Addition by subtraction!:v_SPIN:

I did look at it. I virtually quoted it in my exposition. He was opposed to simply doing the same ineffective thing over and over and over and over.

Who isn't? But since we don't have any other viable options we have to try to improve what we have.
