just 3 wins against the top 100 in rpi and just two in the top 50. that's not good if the committee really does look at overall picture regardless of conference. hypothetically if we win the games we are favored in (tech, and oklahoma), we will have a record of 20-11 (10-8). but only 3 quality wins and two losses (bad) outside of the top rpi 100. unless we win one in the tourney, i'm not sure we get in. without that kansas win we don't have much of a case.

guess we may have to steal one on the road or knock baylor off at home just to get in. would really help if oklahoma, okie lite, providence, and drake could sneak back up into the top 100.

sure this is all hypothetical and has been talked about ad nauseum but what else do we have to talk about?

The noncon portion was weak. We knew it would be and wanted to build some confidence, and wins, for this team. As improvement happens, the schedule will start to improve in difficulty. If we finish strong we will be in on what we have done in a major conference.

You can also say that we have only lost to two teams that should not be in the tourney, according to rpi. Both on the road. So, we took care of business against who were expected to and have lost to those that were were expected to for the most part.

Most all of the negative RPI effects of those are nulled by the fact that they were on the road. Half of them were against RPI top 15 teams. Northern iowa is the worst loss at home, and theyre just outside the top 50, and it was early.

don't get me wrong. i am delighted we are even competing for the tourney. i am not down on the overall state of the team. i've even converted a few fans out here in TN to cheer for ISU as their second team.

i just didn't realize our non conference was that weak. hopefully we can steal a few more games this season and it won't even come into play for being selected. wish i could make it back for the baylor game. that would be sweet. i think hilton magic can win that game for us.

To be fair the doomsdayers are no different than the people who want to compare this years team to the Fizer/Tinsley years. Irrationality can be positive as well.
