JP is from Wisconsin, graduated from UW-Oshkosh (and as with all UW-______ schools, they're all Badger fans first and school they attend next), and his first major job was Deputy AD at UW-Madison. It would be essentially homecoming for the guy, his dream job if you will. Which is why it's pretty much a given if JP continues to do great things at ISU the UW job is his when Alvarez if he wants it.

Yep and I wouldn't blame him for going home. Get the endzone done first please though. I am guessing JP would leave us in great hands as well when he does leave.

It's what Becky does on here. Makes up stuff and hopes it sticks. When it's wrong it's b/c things change. Jamie Pollard would never tell an average donor from out east that he plans on leaving ISU to go to Wisconsin. Anyone who believes 1/4 of what Becky says.....well they aren't smart.

Not exactly sure.
Since this has become the official vacation thread, what the **** this has to do with the sez I dont know but, what is people's experience with Dubai? Heard a few wild adventures. Anything to stay away from?

I don't get the talk of JP bolting right after getting all of these facility improvements done. Why not hang around to enjoy the fruits of his labor? It would be like Ray Kinsella plowing up his cornfield, building the baseball field, and then..... moving away.

I know Jp wanted to bring back our killed sports, like baseball. So I don't think the sez is the only thing left on his list. A person knows when they have served their time in a position, most do anyway. It generally happens when you get satisfied or burnt out with what you are doing.

I doubt JP would leave with his son fighting cancer. To leave his friends is exactly what he doesnt need right now.

Pretty sure his son was born with the tumor so he moved here while battling cancer. In fact, I remember an article at the time that mentioned that one of the things we needed was access to a good children's oncology department and we were pretty close to Blank in DSM.

JP doesn't seem like the type of guy that would get burned out very easily. He seems very motivated to improve ISU Athletics in a major way. He is going to be here for awhile.

I wont presume to know Jamie's personal reasons for staying or going, but his son wouldve been pretty young when they moved here, not so much now, so itd be different.

Maybe that is what the voice meant when it said "ease his pain"? JP must be homesick. :wideeyed:

Back to beer sales...

I have the perfect solution. Allow people to bring in a max of 4 beers into the game, charge $5/beer. Have a special line just for those who want to bring in beer. There is no money being invested in equipment, cups, etc and only hourly pay for the special attendant's who handle cash for the beer. They get a special beer stamp so as to show they have "legally" brought in beer. Those caught drinking a beer without said stamp will be warned and if caught again, dismissed from the stadium. Re-entry is not allowed.

Let's say that 15,000 people bring in 4 beers per game, 15,000 x $20=$300,000/game, 7 games=$2.1 million. Pretty good revenue without much actual cost to implement.

Who the hell would pay when you can already sneak them in?

And 15,000 people aren't bringing beers in so those are a bit exaggerated.

I do not understand the hand wringing over this.

Bringing beer into the game is already expressly prohibited. Obviously, there are plenty of people who bring it in (and those of us who do not) who believe it enhances the game day experience.

Why isn't the athletic department attempting to profit from that demand?

It isn't liability. There's plenty of case law in Iowa that those who serve alcohol are not responsible for what happens after it is sold, beyond being certain those patrons are of age.

Did you actually read my post? Consequences for those drinking without stamps. Also this is mostly tongue in cheek thinking. You can use whatever number you wish and figure out a different revenue plan.

I read it...I just hoped you realized how ludicrous that idea was. Apparently I was wrong.

But what happens when I (22) buy a beer and give it to a friend (underage) and they're caught with it. How does Iowa State prove it didn't serve my brother?

I would say that if there are 50,000 people in JTS, close to 15,000 are consuming alcohol.

Most of those are probably flasks, but I think that's a pretty accurate number for how many people drink at the game right now, when you include students, people in suites who are doing it "legally" and people outside the student section with either flasks or beers.
