Sherron Dorsey-Walker had a game high 26 points to lead Detroit Pershing to a 94-41 victory over Redford Thurston last night. Teammate 2013 SF Martez Walker had 15 points (Recruit Lists » Walker, Martez) in the first round state playoff win.

2013 PG Monte Morris (Recruit Lists » Morris, Monte) took control of the Flint Beecher game last night, racking up 18 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists and 6 steals on the way to a 63-49 win over Madison Heights in first round state playoffs as well.

Both of those teams will play again on Wednesday in second round state tournament action, note they will not meet each other as Pershing is in Class A while Flint Beecher is in Class C.

Some news that could have some impact on recruiting interests of Iowa State, Central Michigan has fired head coach Ernie Zeigler (Uncle of 2013 Byron 'Bo' Zeigler). Trey Zeigler (Top 50 player out of 2010 class) also plays for Central Michigan and could potential transfer as well.

Note, the mention of Trey is just for additional information, I have heard nothing in regards to Iowa State being interested in him.

2013 PG Monte Morris plays in Flint Beecher's 2nd round state tournament game tonight and as mentioned previously Arizona State will have an assistant there, also USC is expected to have someone in attendance as well per a local high school coach.

Sounds like Morris is going to be tough to get him out of the state of Michigan, especially if he keeps having games like that.

Hopefully Coach Corn can convince Monte to play for the good guys.

Rivals does not yet show offers from Micigan or MSU for Morris. I don't recall if they've offered, but not updated the profile, or if they really haven't offered. Maybe SvrWx has notes...

michigan already has a 2013 pg committ from detroit.

i bet coach ziegler ends up getting a raise as an assistant at a high major recruiting his son.

Michigan has offered Morris, they offered him back in early June of 2011 based off of a couple of Michigan Basketball websites. Michigan State has not offered and IIRC from what I've read before they don't really plan too either... If Michigan decides they really want him I do believe they have the upper hand, but if Michigan puts him on the back-burner at all there are several schools (including Iowa State) that are keeping close tabs on him.

Also, Wisconsin Div. 2 semifinal at 3:30 this afternoon: Onalaska vs. Milwaukee Pius. I'll be watching, and give updates/ 2 cents about Matt Thomas. This will be the 1st time I've seen a whole game - really looking forward to it.

Onalaska 38, Pius 32 in a low scoring, defensive semi-final game. Onalaska will play Kaukauna tomorrow evening in the Division 2 State Championship game. Thomas had 14 pts, 12 rebs, and probably at least 3 steals.

Initial thoughts – big strong guard. Amongst the competition today (Div 2 – 2nd largest class) he’s easy to pick out. He’s as big as most of the other post players, but he’s a guard. Great frame – he’s already strong, and can get stronger. He appears confident in most all aspects of the game.

Does not require much space to get a shot off, partly because of his size, but also because he has a very quick release, good rise. Comfortable shooting several feet behind the 3-point line.

Rebounds as well as anyone on the floor.
Turns and shoots, quickly.
Comfortable running the offense from the point, but the team likes to run him from the wing, to get him shots.

Clearly the most polished, skiled player on the floor, but misses opportunities as his team didn’t always set him up very well.

Extremely versatile scorer:
- dribble drives to middle of lane, splits two defenders with an up-and-under layup. (impressive move)
- 15' Dribble – pullup and sank a bank shot.
- Half-court oop-layup
- 10’ Post up turn-around jumper (particularly impressive, athletic move - really elevated, got shoulders square before his release)
- 22' foot-on-the-arc 2 in the middle of a double team.
Drives fearlessly, and looks for contact - he's strong enough to finish that way.

Defensively, I doubt he’ll ever guard a point, but could be ok against a 2 or 3. He mostly face guarded his wing (#3) in the corner of the zone and does a good job of getting arms up in the passing lanes. He had several steals by tipping passes. Decently quick hands, but I am not sure how quick he slides his feet – didn’t see it too much as his man did not threaten to drive much.

He was double teamed way out on the arc in the 2nd half, but was comfortable dribbling around - but did not get many open looks though. Pius opted to leave other guys open for back door layups in order to lock up Thomas several feet beyond the arc. He did lose the handle a couple times, and got trapped once.

During the broadcast, Iowa State got mentioned along w/ Boston College, Virginia, Minnesota, and Wisconsin as schools recruiting him.
