In 2011 Iowa State was national title worthy after beating Big 12 Conference Champion Oklahoma State.

And if it wasn't for oversaturation of bowl games, the best teams would go to bowls (assuming no conference ties to bowls). With over half of the teams qualifying for bowls now, it is just drawing the line of what level of suck can you sink to before you aren't bowl eligible.

Also, the "more practices" thing is a whole separate issue. That should be like basketball where you can practice up until the day of the championship game.

And after seeing Iowa State in Yankee Stadium, those bowl practices fixed exactly nothing.

Again... why do you care. Dont watch if you dont want to see it, the rest of us will enjoy more football. I personally wouldnt care if every team got a matchup in the postseason. I might not watch them all, but it doesnt hurt me if a 2-10 team is playing a 1-11 team.

I could support a requirement of 6 FBS wins, like the old rule. Remember when they went to a modified version that a IAA win could count every couple of years? Good grief.

But, who really cares how many bowls there are? A system already exists to determine how many bowls work --> free enterprise. Crappy bowls don't make money, lose their sponsorship, and fold.

If some other joker stadium/City/company wants to start a new bowl, who cares?

And seriously, any ISU fan should clearly be supportive of 6-6 teams going to bowl games. There is no argument to be made that our program would be better if we sat at home the last three years.

Why do you care about why I care? It's a damn message board. I think there are too many bowls and think it should be a privilege to attend a bowl, not a participation medal for over half of the teams in college football. Want to play in the postseason? Awesome, then don't suck.

You don't think there's a point where having too many bowl games makes them all suffer by no longer being "special" for lack of a better word?

No, i dont. A bowl game with 2 top teams will always be more 'special' than a bowl with lesser teams. 2 lesser teams playing bowl games against each other doesnt hurt the better bowls.

I don't think they all suffer.

Do 6-6 or 7-5 teams make the Rose Bowl? If that happened, that may affect them all

ISU-Rutgers in the Pinstripe Bowl didn't affect anyone's bowl experience or prestige.

Well, except Tom Herman. I guess it ate up a few minutes of time to pretend he wasn't working somewhere else.

Why do i care about why you care? Because your reasonings are completely unjustifiable beyond just gut feelings of 'privilige' and 'reward'. There's a big difference in saying 'i wont watch those games because i dont think those teams are very good' and 'not only will i not watch them, i dont think they and their fans should be able to take advantage of an opportunity to play that someone is more than willing to pay for, for no other reason than "i dont think they deserve it" '

After reading through a lot of this thread, I'm wondering how many people here are actually college football fans and how many have really been sucked into believing that the SEC is the almighty football King and no one else need apply type of mentality. I will honestly watch just about any college football game that is on TV. Granted, if it ends up a blow out, I usually change the channel, but if a middle of the pack team is playing another middle of the pack team and the game is relatively close, I'll watch that as well as any other game.

I'm sorry, but the Game of the Century version 1 with LSU vs. Alabama, arguably the two best teams in the country, was a complete and utter bore. I watched it because it was close, but I can genuinely say that I've seen better games played between 2 mid pack teams. Hell, look at ISU vs. Nebraska 2010.

There is no way that anyone is going to convince me that less college football is good for college football. It might end up being good for TV, sponsorship and for those perennial top 25 teams that know they will make a bowl, but in the end, it's not going to be good for fans of college football in general. As has been stated many times, lesser bowls do nothing to deminish top tire bowl games. It's just an easy place to place blame. The BCS is just as responsible, although probably moreso, for making bowls meaningless by allowing selections based on fanbases as opposed to actual season merit.

I hate Real housewives, NCIS, Celbrity Apprentice, Survivor, etc. I don't call for them to be taken off TV though, I just choose to not watch them and it suits me just fine.

I remember how excited we all were when we became bowl eligible last season, so I'm going to disagree that it wouldn't ruin that feeling of accomplishment if everyone was guaranteed a bowl game.

maybe we can beat some big 12 teams since we got rid of nebraska, missouri,a and m, and the weakling colorado and replaced them with the weak sisters west virginia and texas christian university. west virginia and tcu should be cakewalks for us this fall because they played in very weak conferences. we should be able to go 8-4 and get in a bowl game every year now..oklahoma,texas,baylor,and kansas state should be our toughest competitors this fall...we should win all of our non conference games, texas tech, kansas, and okie state since they lost weeden and blackmon...

this is just a bit of satire. don't take these comments to your bank. we might get our butts kicked royally by wv and tcu...

The entire bowl system is a series of arbitrary exhibition games, so why not throw out some arbitrary requirements to play in them? Seems about right.

We kinda couldn't compete with the heavyweight Big 12. Now we have a less-heavyweight conference with the new teams, but maybe not. Some teams lost players, so maybe that helps but maybe not. Don't take it seriously. We might stink and get killed anyway. Or not. Or maybe. Or something else.
Ah I see now, the answer is potato.

I agree. My arbitrary requirement is that each team must have at least one play during the year where the place kicker plays the quarterback position and takes a snap from center. This play would be displayed before the game or during quarter breaks for comedic relief.

6 and 6 is just fine..... leave it alone.

a. As a longtime season ticket holder, I had a great time (with my family) at the bowl game in New York City last year.... memories to last a lifetime.

b. Most importantly... the Pinstripe Bowl didn't exactly suck for CPR and our football team (as well as his staff and their families) either. What a great reward after a long, hard fought season.

c. From what I could tell, it appeared as though the Cyclone Varsity Marching Band and the Cheerleaders were having a good time too.

d. Why would anyone want to limit such a great experience for someone else anyway. If you don't want to go, don't buy a ticket or simply change the channel.
