Remind me, why did we not want Woodbury?

If Woodbury had been interested in ISU, I'm sure CFH would have gladly taken him. Those who way he was not much of a factor last night were not watching the same game I was. Iowa's defense is better when Woodbury is in there just because he is in there or maybe I missed all the drives by ISU's guards trying to get Woodbury into foul trouble.

Also, people have to realize that it is generally accepted that it takes a couple of years to develop a big man out of high school into a dominant Division I big man. No, that does not apply if you are Anthony Davis or someone like him, but with most big men it does apply. With the right coaching and development, Woodbury is going to be good for Iowa for years to come, unless he leaves early.......which could happen after maybe his junior year.

So, because he was a fan of Iowa, we didn't even try? Iowa was garbage for almost half of his life, I would think CFH would at least try! It's amazing North Carolina recruited Barnes, as did Iowa/Kansas/everyone in the nation, given he was a lifelong ISU fan. The whole 'he was a hawk fan' excuse doesn't pass muster with me. All of these kids had a favorite team growing up, most of which were not us.

So you pose the question to the community that would be least likely to actually know, you get an answer you don't like, and you start questioning the staffs' recruiting strategy...

Hhmmmm.

So you would rather have a guy like SDW who is redshirting or Okoro who hasn't shown any ability to be a B12 player than Woodbury? Fred would have taken Woodbury in a second if he had any interest and would have taken him over either of those two players and probably Naz as well.

On this ISU roster who would he take mins from? Im not saying he isnt going to be a good player, but there may not have been a place for him at ISU.

I don't know if Woodbury is going to be a monster, but he's going to be a really valuable player for them. Definitely better than I expected. Clemmons was really good too.

He could have Bookers minutes for sure. Some of Gibson's too.

The honest truth is CFH passed on Woodbury because he looks like a goober. You need to be aesthetic to play for the Cyclones. Same goes for Gessell.

There...it's out. Now you know.

It's too bad the cyclone defenders weren't smart enough to stop his one move. The drop step hook shot. Incredibly frustrating to watch him do that whenever he got the ball last night and the defense refused to do anything about it.

The kid is 7'1''. He had a hand in his face. If he can make that shot, its damn near impossible to stop.

This is my only point. We can stop with the Cyclone butthurt. I get it. We all hate Iowa. But that doesn't mean all their players are garbage and they don't have some nice young guys to look forward to.

We didn't ever factor into Woodbury because he was a lifelong Hawk. It was either Iowa or a big name school.

Saying he sucks or wasn't a factor is just butthurt and not objective.

Woodbury

23 min
9 points
5 boards

Niang

33 min
13 points
5 boards

Clearly both were factors. Maybe the biggest thing that Woodbury did was go cause one of our senior starters to pick up 3 quick fouls in just 5 mins of game action.

You just became my fav poster. Best freshman on the court last night was Niang. But that doesn't mean Woodbury won't be a big time college player. The butt hurt right now on this site is ridiculous. The kid got an offer from North Carolina for christs sake. He didn't want to be a Cyclone - life goes one. Lazard just committed mostly because he bleeds cardinal and gold. You win some, you lose some. But every single one of you saying hes awful and he wouldn't play for us make our fan base look like dumb *****.

I think he is decent. However we don't match up well at all with him. We are to small for 7 footers. Whithey will have his way with us. Good thing is there are not many tall centers in tue big 12.

Typical overreaction thread. Our team, which is better, or at least will be by the end of the year, doesn't show up for the game at CHA last night and some posters spend the rest of the evening asking why we didn't recruit their mediocre players that had better than usual evenings last night, especially when they had no interest in coming to ISU?

No wonder I avoided this site last night after the game - stupidity reigned the night.

If our team is so much better how come we lost by 9 points and committed 19 turnovers??

Because our team is full of transfers who have never played together. They are still adjusting. They had an off night. It happens. Get over it.

EXCUSES EXCUSES.............not gonna get it done with 19 turnovers and playing defense like a 7th grade pickup team.

this

a 7 footer who can shoot a hook shot is impossible to stop and that doesnt even mention the fact that he shoots it with either hand

thats why ive never understood why post players dont work on the hook shot more often, it cannot be stopped

woodbury is going to be a handful for the next 4 yrs

Adam Woodbury showed up on his official to ISU with a Hawk T-Shirt on, that should tell you why he isnt at ISU. I also think that is a classless move by him to do that, have some respect or dont waste a visit. Anyway, Iowa played above themselves some last night. I will eat crow if they are able to bring that much energy every night out. i say that because I know they wont, hats off to them.

Woodbury thats easy...

Because he's a SLOW WHITE KID & we at ISU do NOT recruit SLOW WHITE KIDS.....

Its as simple as that!!

LOL except for the "simple" fact that we offered him a scholarship and had he accepted we would have taken him with open arms. But don't let a fact get in the way of your false and racist rant.

I don't know how high his ceiling is but he's 7'1'', runs the court well (nothing "slow" about him) and he's active. He's only going to get stronger. He was outmuscled/pushed around at times tonight as he will all year but the desire is there to bang with the big guys. Looks to me like he will become an above average to good college player.
