As a student who has yet to miss a home conference game, and only a few non-con's, a perpetual sign maker, and a mastermind of rude insult yelling, I feel like writing an editorial to the Daily on the do's and don'ts of CA...
I have heard enough good points on here.

Awesome, thank you. I'm glad they're at least making an attempt to listen to student opinions.

I think you should start a "Cyclone Power" or "Lets Go State" chant at the end of every timeout. It gets the crowd pumped up again, as well as the players. Heck, half the time the opposing coach calls a timeout to shut everyone up.

I wish people would lay off kids with the phones. Who knows why they are on there? Televised games, my son will text me once to say where he is sitting. One of his friends was checking her phone because her sister was in labor during W. Va. game. Unless someone is on it constantly and not engaged in the game at all, I don't see the big deal.

The students who stole my usual seats in the first row of the balcony last game were on facebook and twitter almost the entire game. And they were guys. Those are the type of people who need to be told to put their phones away.

I would suggest going with small, simple, doable suggestions. You can't change the culture over night, but you can do things to influence in the direction you'd like.

To truly make the student section better ******** about CA won't accomplish anything. Give them good ideas that they can use and will support.

Them along with 80% of the other students. It's embarrassing.

The cell phone issue is the "problem" with our generation. No matter where kids our age are, the vast majority have their nose in their phone, not paying attention to anything else. There probably isnt anything any of us can do about it, its just the problem with us kids these days.

Totally agree. I'm not gonna suggest anything ridiculous like shutting down CA, which is what a lot of people seen to want. But there have been some very doable suggestions on here that I am willing to mention.

Agreed as well. I've got a full page of notes from this thread that I'm taking. Doable stuff that I believe can be done (obviously.. since it's doable).

I occasionally use my phone during games. Usually to update someone with the score, or to get updates of other scores.

On rare occasions I want to know what announcers say about a particular call, or if the TV replays shows something different, or the reason for a players being out (injury updates), and I will text someone watching the game to find any updates or check CF. This applies more to football than basketball though.

I avoid using my phone during game action though.

I'm not a student on Cyclone Alley, rather I'm a student who has been invited to this. I'm not going to tell the people that were nice enough to listen to my ideas to get rid of it. If other people want to do that, that's fine, but the I do not believe it is my place to suggest disbanding Cyclone Alley.

Which is exactly what is wrong with CA. When it really comes down to it, CA exists for the people in charge of it. It is what makes them relevant. To get rid of it would be be to admit that something that they have wrapped their entire identity around is a failure.

The idea might not be bad, but telling them they should shut down CA won't do anything except make them mad. At that point they won't listen to any suggestions. It's better to give them solutions they might actually implement.

The majority of campus organizations exist for the people who are involved with them. I think that unless you can prove that CA is having a negative effect they won't disband.
