Best idea I've seen yet. Any idea of what years this was in place?

Please don't hop on this idea and run. It may sound ok in theory but not even having a shot at decent seats for a few games is a turn off. As one who went from this system to the "free-for-all" system, keep it to where those at Hilton earliest on game day get the best seats. Oh yeah, and get rid of the whole Cyclone Alley committee presence at the games. They could still be "behind the scenes" thinking up ways to instill craziness but let's return the student section back to its unpoliced roots.

I'm still interested in going to this meeting depending on what time it is. I'm a student so it's not like they're going to tell me I wasn't invited... PM me if you must.

This, don't do the lottery system. Keep it as first come first serve. With the lottery you will get boring students up front that happened to get a lucky number.
Also, people shouldnt be allowed to save seats, this includes the CAC.

It was already mentioned but it's a good idea. If CA can't technically give "dirt" on opposing players, create a facebook page that will say those things in it.

Ok people - I am going to blow your minds with actual feasable options to impove this situation.

CA Mission Statement - Make Hilton game day atomosphere fun and exciting for ISU players and fans

1. Use CA dollars to set up make a sign booths at the entrance to every game. Don't limit signs to CA memebers only allow this for ALL of hilton
2. Bring back the 3 pt signs for all the lower bowl. We make a ton of them they will get so annying to the opposition and gives the oldies something to do thats easy
3. Come up with new cross court cants or start very simple chants
4. relax the shirt rule
5. have a speaker at the game or put in announcements to the PA guy to include the whole arena on events

All in all stop acting like an exclusive prep club and try get the whole arena involved to be more fun. Right now no one is having fun with anything going on down there. It shows on TV it shows at the game and it shows in the membership.

None of that blew my mind... At all.

You obviously don't get it then.

Better luck next year kid.
No, obviously you don't get it.

This thread is about Cyclone Alley. AKA our student section. It has nothing to do with the rest of Hilton.

The problem is students don't know how to act at a game. "Relaxing" the shirt rule would do nothing for that (oh, and by the way, CA shirts aren't required any more, where have you been?). New chants don't solve the lack of jumping/craziness. 3 point signs don't solve the lack of jumping/craziness. Signs don't solve the lack of jumping/craziness. We have a PA guy, but that doesn't solve the lack of jumping/craziness.

I've seen get rid of CA mentioned several times in this thread, that is more than feasible. It works for football, and up until about 7 or 8 years ago it worked great for basketball too. CA was created to fix a problem that didn't exist, and I have yet to see anybody make a strong case for why we are better off with it than without.

That said, I don't think the powers that be will allow it to be killed off, so given that I do like the suggestion of removing the CAC from gameday. No more leaders saving seats, taking up the front row, policing behavior, etc. They disappear into a behind the scenes planning group only, where they can still do things like get props for games, choose t-shirt designs, or schedule bus trips to road games.

Your problem is looking at the situation with only one lense. How do I get more jumping/craziness........

Why isnt the CA mission to try to make the whole crowd as energized as possible? You have too much an us vs. attitude right now in CA. If you morphed your goals as a unit to create greater good you would not run into this issue. Students can be loud but then the other 10,000 people to join in is when the place is at its best. All great game atomosphers get the whole crowd into the game not just one section.

If CA really wants to do a self assesment they need to start looking big picture. The game and cheering is much more than just you ................

While I agree that the whole crowd needs to be into it... It's asking a lot when the group that is SUPPOSED to be the craziest, isn't. Baby steps need to be taken here. Starting with CA. Then, we can lead by example for all the blue-hairs that leave with 3 minutes left to beat traffic.

I agree that the student section would be better off with the CAC working behind the scenes. They can organize all they want, I don't care, that's probably never going to change. They SHOULD be on the committee because they love Cyclone basketball. So whether they're in the front row or the 10th shouldn't matter. The amount of saved seats in the front row is ridiculous when you consider how much more into the game people a few rows back get.
Edit for addition: I know that some in the front row DO get into the game a lot. And chances are if you're one of the front-row people on here reading this, you're into the game just as much as I or the next guy is.

I think a Facebook page run by non-CAC students would be awesome, and I would definitely get behind being a co-creator/page mod/whatever you want to call it, and spread the word to everyone to go to this page. This page could inform the student population on opposing players sketchy history, encourage ideas for signs, encourage chaos, whatever.

I think we run a 5s basketball tourney to determine seat order.

After reading more of this tread i believe CA to be out of wack. Too much butt hurt as a group about people on phones, seat saving, not going crazy enough. Just chill the heck out people! No one yells at the kid at the football game sitting in the 4th row for not being crazy enough. I see why a girl would never want to sit by people in this section.

It is a student section people. Nothing more than a section for students to sit in. It should be a fun place to go with friends and watch a game. It it were a fun place people would do more cheering and do less crying.

If you watch old videos of Hilton really rocking on you tube you just see lots ofpeople standing and cheering and some signs. No need to disparage other kids because they didn't jump high enough on the last 3 make.

I see why CA gets so much hate on this site

I could care less how high some people jump or how loud they yell. People show excitement in different ways, and I'm not going to judge how they do so. I think the general consensus on here at least from a student viewpoint is that we wish everybody would be into the game and not just there because it happened to be included in their student ticket package, and that everyone that is there can feel free to get into the game in ANY way that they see fit. Some people think the CAC hinders students from doing so, and some people do not. Like I've said before, the people on here (both students and non-students) are more than likely the ones most into the game anyway, so it's just preaching to the choir.
