How annoying is the band?

They play an instrument. How does that make them any more loyal than anyone else?

My first year in marching/pep band was in 2007 when Chizik first started, I went to practice at least 7.5 hours per week during football season and 2 or so hours during basketball. I watched two pretty terrible seasons while Chizik and McDermott were coaching. Yet I still signed up to do it every year for 4 more years because I love Iowa State and being a part of the band. Don't tell me that I am not one of the more loyal fans just because I played an instrument

The band never leaves at the 8:00 media timeout. The band doesn't skip a conference game because "we'll probably beat them anyway". The band doesn't miss a game because "it was snowing outside." Oh let me count the ways. The vast majority of fans (including the posters on this site) aren't the ones I'm comparing them to. The larger point is, this is a group of kids that shows up and is proud of their team and their school, so why do people feel the need to harp on them? Harp on the people who don't show up to games because "they're tired" or "they dont' feel like it". Harp on the people who only seem to care about the team when they go to the postseason, instead of the kids who went to every game of the McDermott era, even when nobody had a reason to give a crap. That's what I'm saying.

Good points. But the band is the one doing the annoying chants. Annoying chants = negative response.

I was thinking to myself, what if we made it to Atlanta and the band still does their thing in the Final Four. It would be embarrassing, but pretty funny. The band doesn't give a ****

Yes, you might be a loyal fan. I paid money for student tickets in college. As did the other students in attendance. That is pretty loyal too. My point was playing an instrument isn't some indicator of fandom. (Since you are wanting to compare, I went for the last year of Walden and the beginning of Mac's tenure. Try watching that.)

And you got to go to games for free and travel to games for free. At the sametime you got to be part of a band for 4 more years.

The chants are awful. It can't be that hard to find something funny to chant. The chants scream "we know nothing about basketball but...hey, look at us!". Total embarrassment.

I went to every game during the McDerm and Chizik era.. We aren't questioning your loyalty, because we have loyalty to our team too, but we are saying that it is annoying as hell and sounds dumb on National TV.

And hopefully the opposing players think the same and it gets into their head at least a little bit, they can choose to not look at visual distractions, but they can't really help what they are hearing.

I wouldn't care if every member of the band donated 10k every year, was the best concert player in history, or or cared more than any Iowa State fan alive. The chants are stupid as hell. Find me somebody under sixty who likes it and I'll show you somebody with no less than 4 cats at home.

It'd actually be kind of embarrassing if the team made it to Atlanta, and people still couldn't find anything better to start threads about than the band.

Regardless of whether or not they are the most loyal fans, they dont deserve a thread every single month bashing on them for having fun. Get over yourselves.

How about switching the thread to bashing on the cheerleaders for those ridiculous bows they wear. I thought after the Big12 tournament someone would have the balls to tell them how ridiculous they look.

Lemme see if I understand. We've got yet another thread about how the band...makes noise...while the other team is shooting free throws?
