Re: Rashad Vaughn

I don't know why you think people believe it was a forgone conclusion. But it is OK for fans to think it was possible that last years team could have made it to the Final Four. My god, we are allowed to think and speculate and have thoughts. Sometimes Iowa State fans go to far in this direction. It is the very worst quality about Iowa State fans. If anyone dares to have a thought that isn't 100% backed up by facts, then they shouldn't say it. Good ******* grief. Was last year's team a sure bet for the Final Four if they had beat Ohio State? Of course not and NO ONE IS SAYING THAT. But Iowa State had just as good of a shot as anyone. I became a believer last year that the style of play that Iowa State plays is a huge help in those tournaments. Teams haven't played a team like Iowa State before and it shows.

As far as Hoiberg saying this team could have made it to the Final Four. He DID NOT just say at at Tailgate Tours. He's been saying it in almost every interview since the NCAA tournament---national interviews and local interviews. I truly believe he thought that and that is why he looked so horrible after the game. Hell, I think that is is why he thought about Minnesota.

Excellent post ... except for the part about Minnesota. Hoiberg never seriously considered it. His legacy is in Ames. Imagine how amazing his story will be after taking us to the NCAA tournament for 20+ years straight.

P.S. And of course, Rashad Vaughn will want to be part of that story!

Re: Rashad Vaughn

That's pretty sick. Hopefully he comes here. If not, I hope he goes to UM or UCLA. At UM he could help beat the Hawks. At UCLA, he's out of site, out of mind.

Obviously KU or Baylor would hurt. UNC or UK.... yuck!

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I guess more along the lines of respectful dialogue, but I'm seeing that's becoming more difficult to come by.

Alright, here you go Split...this team was not an elite team like say Louisville, Michigan, etc.

However, they were in a situation due to the region they played in, that, had they gotten the call right against o$u, there is a legitimate argument that can be made that Iowa State had every opportunity to be the team to come out of the west.

This isn't the same as the 99-00 team that was national championship caliber in their ability and dominance. This was more a case of a team that played a unique style that could make them difficult to play. Add the fact that had a region open up, and it is not a major stretch to have seen Iowa state win the west region.

Now I get that you are trying to tweak all the marks on here....good job

"That is a lucid, intelligent, well thought out" discussion point. Not sure I remember how this discussion ended up in the RV thread, but it is what it is.

He's going to go to a prep school for sure which one yet to be decided/disclosed. He's visited some.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Smart move in my opinion. If he wants to be #1, he can't stay at Robbinsdale. I see his recruitment taking a similar path to Wiggins (though he isn't quite as good - and NOT TO KANSAS the pain would be too great).

Yes, I am an expert. :pbaffled:

Re: Rashad Vaughn

The next question is how soon a prep school can be established in Ames.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

This story is also in the Star Tribune. Doesn't say where yet. Is he really trying to better himself? Or is he tired of being second best in the cities?

Absolutely trying to better himself. Robbinsdale Cooper is limited in who they play and how much they travel. By going to a prep school you get to play some national competition and it's much closer to collegiate level ball.

Travis Hines from the Ames Tribune confirmed the story after speaking with Pete Kaffey. Kaffey is Vaughn's mentor and former assistant coach.

Hines wrote an article on the situation as well: Top ISU recruit heading to prep school | Ames Tribune

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Bump... (a big one)

Rashad Vaughn to Findlay Prep in Nevada per Hines on Twitter. Hines said his source was Pete Kaffey (Vaughn's mentor). Sorry I can't post the link, I'm on my phone.

Although proximity to *home* doesn't change for ISU, the ease of taking an unofficial visit whenever just went out the door. If ISU doesn't get an official visit next year, the door to get RV may be closed.

Good info! I imagine his stock will rise even higher (not that he was under the radar) with the exposure and competition.

BTW; are these Prep Schools getting better scrutiny and accreditation regarding quality of education, or are they still pretty much a rubber stamp for a diploma?

Some prep schools are wonderful. Not sure how they are regulated.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

The two prep schools in the entire country that benefit ISU the most, in terms of RV's recruitment, are Brewster Academy and Findlay Prep. Ejim is from Brewster and Naz Long is from Findlay. I hope Naz has a good connection with Vaughn so they can talk about Findlay and ISU together.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Sorry if the info is in here already, but what is the reasoning for him going to prep?

I guess I am confused, I thought most guys went prep to get more exposure or grades in order
