Re: Rashad Vaughn

Why? You think Fred and Co. would waste time on recruiting him if they didn't think he had a shot? If you don't think we're in his top 5 you're crazy IMO. Do I think we end up getting him? No. But I think he's still considering us and who wouldn't want to play in Fred's system if you're looking to score.

Do we know that he's still recruiting him? I'll be curious to see if we spend time watching him at Peach Jam. I have absolutely no idea, for the record.

Well we dont know if they are still recruiting him for one. 2, we might be in his top 5, similar to the way we were in HB top 5. If I had a top five, iowa state would be 1, 2-5, while would still be in my top five, would be out of consideration.

I just dont see anything pointing to us having a legitimate shot at him.

which pretty much points to playing at a high high high major. I think its unrealistic at this point to think we have a legitimate shot at him.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... all that has changed since people on these forums were super excited we were recruiting him, is that more people have started recruiting him. In what way does that kick us out from the running? Were people really expecting UK and UNC to not offer a top 20 guy and that we'd just float along quietly without competition?

Do I think we get him? I hope so. Will we? Who knows. But our chances of getting him haven't changed in the slightest in the last several months since UNC and UK recruited him. People count us out because big dogs showed up, and we haven't gotten a bluechip recruit for a while... well now we have a big dog with CFH and anything is possible. Sure both UK and UNC have a history of getting guys to the NBA, but so does Fred. He knows people in front offices, he's played for some of the best coaches in history.

as I've said several times on these forums, until Vaughn says no way am I going to Iowa State, I will not count us out... and even then, he's gotta sign on someone else's dotted line.

I guess if we send someone to watch him in Philly we know Fred and Co. still think they have a legitimate shot at him. I'm guessing we send someone there since Hines is usually pretty good with his sources but we'll know sooner than later

Guessing there's plenty of players to watch in Philly other than RV. Its okay to keep your hopes up , have opinions, especially cuz he hasn't signed with anyone else yet, but its also okay for fellow fans to share realistic views when they're hearing otherwise and trying to hint to those fellow fans to "move on".

Why don't people tell what they're hearing other than what someone at tarheel.com or wildcat.com says? I'm trying to be realistic I just don't know what's been said that's different now from when he visited us

Optimistic never equals realistic for some posters. Some folks just won't allow those two words to go together.
Their choice, but it's the one I'll make.

I don't get my hopes crazy high for Rashad, but I agree that we aren't out of it until he says so. Therefore, there's a chance, and the chance is a fun story.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

My hopes are not very high on Vaughn coming here. However, what keeps us in the running is that he wants to get up and down the court (precisely what Hoiberg likes to do) and he likes good fan support (he saw it against Baylor) and his parents seem to want to be able to come to as many games as possible, if he went to ISU or Minny they could attend every game easily, go to UK/UNC and they couldn't

I have stated several things though this and the recruit thread why I feel he isn't coming here. You guys just dismiss it because I don't have a twitter quote from him spelling it out.

Maybe I missed it State. I only remember someone saying they talked to some NC fan who said they thought he was going there or something along those lines and I don't remember who said it. Care to share again?

Re: Rashad Vaughn

In some ways Vaughn seems to be an against the grain guy. Ex. He played on a team opposite of the other two good MN kids. He seems to like to be singled out. Maybe this is because he wants to drafted #1 and he thinks that is the way to get that rating or that is his personality. If thats his personality going to ISU might be something appealing to him b/c he might be able to show off more. IDK

Not sure if that tarheel fan has any credibility. He first says Vaughn was lock for UNC and that he wanted to commit but his folks talked him into waiting. Then he comes back later saying UNC wasnt pressing for him as hard anymore and that ISU might be the frontrunner. Then Vaughn gets a UCLA offer and he takes a visit there. THEN, more articles come out saying how UNC is still making Vaughn a top priority and Vaughn is obviously very high on UNC. Minnesota still thinks they have a shot because the new coach hs a good relationship with him and Travis. But most people know UM is getting all this consideration because they are the home team and have been so good to him over the years. Last, UK insiders are saying that Calipari is going to push hard to land Vaughn and anyone Calipari really really wants, he gets (Cant say I disagree). Vaughn is the #1 SG target for UK and Vaughn has stated that he wants to play with Perkins and Mudiay who are rumored to be eventual UK commits. There is nothing definite, but we all have to accept that Vaughn being a big time recruit, nothing is for certain till they day he announces. I would definitely help our cause to have him down for a game or two this season (Michigan, KU, OSU, BU, etc)

Ah gotcha. I don't think he will come here but like Erik said, until he rules us out it's fun to think we have a chance.
