Re: Rashad Vaughn

Yeah you don't want him visiting during the Iowa game.

Yeah, cuz watching the football team dismantle the Hoks will be SOOO boring.

(Actually, it could be...see last year).

I think RV comes for another visit - official or unofficial, who really cares. He's made numerous cryptic statements over the past 6 months that lead one to believe he's got us in his top 2, let alone top 5:

"What NBA player/coach would you most like to play for? Hoiberg."
"Gonna go out on a limb and put ISU in my top 5".
"Teams that play fast and get up and down. Like Iowa State."

He hasn't mentioned NC at all since all this PJ Hairston stuff hit the fan and they had that other guard commit. I'll be shocked if we don't get at least another visit.

Re: UNC/ RV. Saw a tweet a couple days ago saying Devin Booker is no longer considering UNC. So if they want another SG/ wing - it would seem it's RV or Robert Johnson.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Just thinking out loud... wouldn't it make more sense for Vaughn to visit during a basketball game, especially since he seems content to wait out his commitment announcement? Also, I'm not really sure how prep schools work, but if he gets time off during the winter and goes back to MN, it would be easier for him to make a home ISU game, perhaps NIU, Kansas, or (heh) Baylor.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say he commits to ISU. Seems like he has been hinting it along now.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I am proud of what we got now. Landing two four star recruits will make such a big impact on this program in the coming years, especially after loosing several talented seniors. With the return of Niang and Ejim, and the addition of Kane we should be a very solid team. Looking forward to being in Hilton in November

Rashad Vaughn, while a huge get for us, just seems so unlikely especially with the blue bloods in the mix. Maybe I am just not a very hopeful person and definitely want to be proven wrong, but when he gets his list down to one school I will believe it. Fred I trust you know what you are doing by watching this kid play so much all across the country, maybe we have an honest shot with him.

Its just how can Iowa State in the middle of Iowa compete with the blue bloods, Las Vegas, and sunny cali with those beautiful cali college girls or even his hometown in Minneapolis. I will be astonished if he picks us.

For a lot of recruits, this is true. But why would Marcus Smart go to OSU? Why would anyone go to Baylor? (Don't answer that last one.) Sometimes a recruit wants to be the star and/or the one to give a team/coach (that he has a good relationship with) a chance to shine. I don't think we can say for sure whether Vaughn is one or the other, but the fact that second group even exists is reason to have hope.

One thing we do know about Vaughn is that he wants to play up tempo. ISU had the 12th quickest offense (per KenPom) last year, 15.8 seconds per possession. But, to be a wet towel, I'll note that UCLA and UNC play almost as fast (they're 13th and 14th) and Rich Pitino played pretty fast at FIU, certainly faster than Tubby did when he was running UMN.

I'm assuming this is in the form of a question? This can be answered in two easy words: FRED HOIBERG. We have a legit shot at Vaughn, otherwise Fred himself wouldn't be spending so much time on him and knows that Vaughn can be a game changer in a one and done season. Plus, he seems to exceed expectations just in the short time he's been here. Have some faith, I think we'll be satisfied by next spring with the recruits we've landed. Custer is already a good get.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Clones21 major jinx. Damn why did you have to say that. For those of you that recall Clones 21 screwed the world over in the Miami vs San Antonio game with that miraculous come back in game 5. Game was over until Clones21 opened his mouth, then it all went to crap. I'm sure there are many other examples. Might as well shut this thread down and move on to the next recruit.

UCLA won't play as fast with Alford

The first quote from him you have is a misquote, and the one word that is misquoted makes that quote.
