I feel as though I was given a crystal ball this evening... When I look into it, I see: last place finish in the Big 12, Red Helmets, SEZ Hillside Seats, and Zero visits to Ames by David Ubben in our future.

Basically, we really suck! Div I, Big 12? 32000 students? Sorry to say, but we really suck. I love the players as they are trying....... but we really suck! Before we can fix our mistakes and get better we have ( like an alcoholic) to understand our problem. Currently, we really suck! NO excuses. We got our a$$es handed to us. We really suck. And I was doing a Dusty Springfield rendition, "Wishin and hopin!" We really suck!!!!!

Hopefully we get so bad that the concession stands will have to offer free refills on souvenir soda's like previous years I was really upset when I found out they were not offering that any more.

After reading this entire thread, I feel like I'm the only one who saw this coming.

We're not good. We weren't supposed to be good.

Excited for basketball season.

My expectations are tempered. The look aid had me thinking 3-0 non-conf, then finally get more than 3 big 12 wins for at least 7 and better bowl. Now we have to win at least 4 Big 12....but have two more non-con to worry about.

It sounds cliche, but gotta work on basics. I saw many times the 3rd or 4th guy got the tackle.

You and I might be the only ones that saw this as a possibility. As the week's led up to this game, I kept posting about how we needed to come out and play our best to win this game, and of course 90% of the people on here said I was stupid and that we would roll them.

We don't roll anyone. At least not in a long time we haven't. We are used to getting completely manhandled in the trenches on both sides of the ball.... just go back to last year's Liberty Bowl... that was an outright embarrassment.

UNI is always a tough out for us. Yet, people on here, year after year give them no credit and for some reason think we are going to blow them out.

We should blow them out, but we never do. We are not a very good football team folks.

There is a reason we have coaching continuity here. No one else wants them. Wally and the new OL coach are the only ones worth holding on to. The rest need upgraded. Especially the DL coaches. The DL has been a joke for a while now. Get a DL coach that can attract & recruit DL and coach it.

These are very important posts. The honeymoon is over... hiring Mess was a massive mistake, one I hope is taken care of before the next game. Any way we can have a vote of no confidence? Offense has been **** poor under CPR. Wally the Wizard has been able to cover a lot of that up, not gonna happen this year.

This season is over, this is not hyperbole. Wasn't UNI replacing 3 starters on both lines?

Yeah, I am not happy after losing badly to Tulsa and UNI in back to back games. And losing by getting manhandled up front. I am not overly worried about the defense, Wally will figure something out and there is some talent there. Now there have been some massive holes on defense, but I think Wally will figure something out. Although I have no idea who is going to play linebacker next year, we just don't have enough linebackers.

But the problems on offense are really bothering me and the Messingham decision looks like it could set this program back 5 years and quite candidly it is making me look at PR differently the more this goes on. It isn't one thing of offense, the whole thing is bad and rotten to the core and it is getting worse. QB play looked better last night but it makes zero difference if nobody can block or get open.

I'm pretty sure the reason we lost is because instead of watching a hit tape and getting pumped up we had to sit through a 13 minute documentary on how they lace up shoes and what fricken laundry detergent we use on the uniforms.

How in the hell do we get MAN HANDLED in the trenches by UNI and TULSA? What ever the philosophy in the weight room is it needs to be rethought. Cause it sure as heck isn't working.

I think tonight marked the ends of the "honeymoon" with Paul Rhoads. Up to now, a lot of Cyclone fans would defend Rhoads no matter what he did or what the results were. Now, I get the sense that may be over, and he will be treated as a coach should be treated - judged on how well the program moves forward, how many wins it racks up, and the results it produces.

Agreed with everything you said. If I were to make list of critiques that I have for the Rhoads era here's what it would be:

1. The offensive has been below mediocre, and very inconsistent.
2. Bowl preparations (1-2)
3. The failure to build upon great wins. In the three biggest upsets under the Rhoads era (Nebraska 2009, Texas 2010, and OSU 2011), twice the team failed to win the following week with the only victory being against Kansas after the Texas victory. Heck, ISU had four chances including the bowl game to win a game after the OSU game, but failed to do so.
4. The inability to beat KSU (0-4)
5. When expectations have risen, Rhoads' teams have laid a goose eggs (Colorado 2010, Texas 2011, KSU 2011, KSU 2012, UNI 2012) The reason why I listed UNI is because there was (maybe there still is but it may be on life support) excitement around the program but once again there was a failure to live up to it.

I like Rhoads a lot, and I acknowledge the heights he has brought this program. I do think he may get this thing turned around since this team is very young and there were going to be growing pains. Now that expectations have lowered dramatically after last night's lost, I think Rhoads may deliver results once again.
