That's a pretty big statement - and I think I agree with it.

totally agree with it. Football/basketball have not had NEAR the turnaround that volleyball has had - and trying to build that out of recruiting ground controlled by Nebraska/Texas couldn't have been easy!

According to the UNI announcer we had nearly everyone back and UNI was bereft of experience.

yeah, that kind of annoyed me - we have a brand new setter, very young hitters, young passers - we only have 2 seniors - just like them. But hey, we won!

Yeah, and if any program at ISU is going to win it all the next few years its volleyball. It may not be a big money\exposure sport but its definitely a lot of fun to watch and CJL is building something great here.

At least she was honest and said she was bias toward uni. That was very scary; I thought we might lose, but then we were up 2-0 and they came back:sad:. Good fight at the end though! Capezio played amazing... as of right now, Malloy who?

I think volleyball has some great coaches. I just wish they'd all been standing and been as animated in the 3rd set, when we could have swept this team, instead of having to do it in the 5th.

The radio crew for UNI volleyball is probably one of the worst in the country for objectivity, turned it off in the 1st set. Our team is just as young, and has plenty of "IA" girls.

While the early returns on wrestling wren't great, I wouldn't sleep on KJ to win it all, someday also.

I've always thought we seem to historically struggle at the end of close sets/matches (as evidenced by the multitude of BAD errors at the end of set 4) Set 5 was fantastic though - like they said, ok, enough of this, let's calm down, play smart, and win!

Who knows? But I would bet that the coaching staff is trying to feel out their team.

Did you see Hahn talking to the at the end of the 4th? She literally looked like a calm coach, she is def. one of our leaders.

I know what you're saying. We played a lot of reserves in the 3rd, and I think it kind of "got away". I think she wants to get players experience, and that's great. The football fan in me, didn't have time for that.

You mean a tip kill doesn't deserve a "HAMMERTIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" call?

I had to laugh when the girl made a comment about Hurtt being there forever (she's a Jr)........do you really think that or is it because you don't realize she's a different person from Victoria Henson........someone with the same number, first name, physical likeness, home state, and position?

I'm really glad we were able to watch the game through their network, but yeah, made me really thankful for the quality of cyclones.tv announcers and picture quality!

You're right on Henson and Hurtt, same initials even. If I recall Henson was only about 5"11 while Hurtt is a bit more imposing at 6'2". While both are from KC metro area, Henson is from Kansas and Hurtt from the Missouri side.

She also had a comment where ISUs players are almost all from out-of-state, right then Vondrak from Sioux City made a kill. Not to mention our AA Hahn from CR, Big 12 freshman of the year Bigbee from Williamsburg, Kuhrtt who played with their setter at Waverly, Knuth from Johnston, and Goetz from Ankeny.

So basically the UNI PANTHER tv network was trying to make it sound like they truly are the IOWA STATE school in the match, while ISU is just a bunch of out-of-state heathens who are out to pillage their town and steal everything they have. Got it.

yeah my bad, not quite from the same state there! They really do seem like similar players to me (I haven't been able to see Hurtt play in person, but have watched on tv) Calm players with an absolutely deadly swing!

Different states but KC is still the same high school and AAU volleyball territory.

She is. And on a different note, did you see how UNI took some sting out of Big-bee? That took good scouting transfered to an effective game plan and heady players to install it. As a Freshmen people were not too hard on Bigbee but the legend is cathing up with her.
