Re: Rashad Vaughn

Monte is a pure point guard, which means the ball will be in his hands. I’m not saying he's a ball-hog, but Vaughn would get more shots and ball time at UNLV because of the talent. They also have a decent recruiting class though.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I don’t think Vaughn cares if the team is good, he just wants to showcase his skill-set. UNLV gives him that, ISU not as much with Monte coming along. Also , Anthony Bennett no matter how bad right now, was the number 1 pick

Monte is a PG. RV is a shooting guard and would start and play 30 minutes a game over any of our talented guards already on the roster.

Idahocyclone, your posts are full of fail. The only question will you cut your losses now, or keep digging?

No offense, but you're pretty far off with this post.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Monte is the opposite of a ball hog. I wish he would shoot the ball a little more to be honest.

If anything having a pure point guard that has proven himself for next year would be a positive for Vaughn. Monte as already proven he can set guys up well and put them in a position to score.

Wow, this is a dumb post. You're nuts if you think RV doesn't want to win. Secondly, why on earth would having a good PG be a bad thing for a shooting guard/wing? That is generally something that scorers covet.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

His coach or "mentor" is connected there and obviously steering him there. Same reason some "mentors" push kids towards Baylor. It's shady as F.

This isn't exactly true. His mentor, Pete Kaffey, followed Vaughn to Findlay and he is an assistant coach there. He has no ties to UNLV.

But UNLV also gets almost no exposure either. No teams on the west coast really do. If he wants to showcase his skill set, then he would want to play somewhere that would have good TV exposure like we do, almost all our conference games are televised somewhere, and we get 2 Big Monday games and this year we have 3 Super Tuesday games, which are the definition of exposure. UNLV doesn't get that by playing in the Mountain West. The players in the Big 12 are also a lot better then those in the Mountain West. My guess is he will want to show what he can do against other future NBA players that Kansas and Baylor would have instead of guys who's basketball careers will probably end after college.

Agreed. Having a PG like Morris will make everyone look better and having a 3 point threat on the court like Thomas only opens it up more for Vaughn

And if you listen to some people, Kaffey is steering Vaughn to ISU. I actually really doubt that Kaffey has much say in Vaughn's decision. According to Vaughn's parents, they wanted Kaffey to go to Vegas with Rashad so he would have a familiar face to help keep an eye on things. I can say without a doubt that if I was a parent and my 17 year old son was moving across the country without me, I'd take some solace in the fact that his coach of about a decade was there with him pretty much every day.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

When I say talent, I mean lack of talent compared to ISU

So you say he may go to UNLV because they have less of a chance at winning a championship? If he comes here we are looking at a conference and maybe a Final 4 at least. What kid would give that up just to play where he would get the ball in his hands more with no other benefits to speak of?

Re: Rashad Vaughn

more possessions per game = more shots for one guy (or spread across the team).

Fred's teams play faster, score more. He proved last year he can put multiple "scorers" on the floor at once, and 5 or 6 guys can/ did get double digits in the games. Beyond that, Monte is more facilitator, whereas Korie wanted to score. I think we're in a better position to facilitate multiple scorers in the next few years than in the past.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

Anyone camping out for the game? Just wondering how early people are going to get in line to get into Hilton. It's supposed to be pretty warm this weekend, at least for November.

The question was asked why RV would consider UNLV. I never said RV didn’t want to win I just said I believe he would have more chances to have the ball in his hands and score more points possibly at UNLV. That’s it. I believe he would have a great opportunity here as well to do that, I was just answering the question on why a player of his caliber would go to that team. In terms of Morris, I also think recruits look at a teams roster and project themselves in it (please don’t disagree with me on that sentence). Not that Monte is better or would get more looks in the offense thats not what I said, I said that having a point guard with that kind potential to be really really good next year might leave RV to believe that he might be able to have the ball more at UNLV. If RV doesn’t care AS MUCH about winning as others, than he would want to display his skills. Again thats not what I believe, but in terms of the first question that I answered, that might be one reason why RV would consider UNLV. Again, I do believe that if RV does commit here he would be the main guy next year, but again in terms of the question, that would be one reason why he would consider UNLV.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

If it's really down to ISU and UNLV, I like our chances. Premier league, coach who knows how to get the most out of talent, team around him with a chance to go a long way in the tourney.......

No. Did you see me post that? I’m not saying RV doesn’t want to win, but there have been plenty of players that have committed to lesser schools so that they could have the ball more.
