Just curious not that many of you probably care but I believe this is also the first time ever that both teams have been ranked during this game in both the men and women. We are experiencing probably the most dominant time in basketball for the state.

Iowa is killing ISU when it comes to recruiting in-state. Iowa has 8 (!) players on their team from Iowa, compared to 2 (Jackson and Ellerman) for Iowa State.

Fred better step it up; I heard there's a tough 5-10 Soph PG out of Grimes.

Knowing Fred he is going to force that issue early. ISU has guards that are quick and can drive to the basket. Matching a smaller and faster guy on some bigger and slower player for Iowa is what you want. The tendency when someone beats you off the dribble is to reach or grab at them. Iowa will have to extend out on the perimeter because ISU is such a big threat shooting the 3 which will open plenty of room for guys to drive. That sets up easy buckets in the paint and also puts Iowa in a position where they may pick up a bunch of cheap fouls. ISU can take advantage of the new rules to pile up some fouls on Iowa.

The definition of Hoiball!

I'm sure that'll be the gameplan for ISU going in. It'll be very interesting to see Fran's counter. The more I think about it, the more I think he has to play some zone. Iowa is not setup to play extended minutes with 3 guards on the floor, unless Gessel and Marble are going to play 35+ minutes.

And zoning a Fred Hoiberg team is never a good idea. NEVER.

Bonus question: do you know who is second on Iowa's team in shot attempts?

A kid that almost went to Drake and won't play more than 5 minutes Friday?

Iowa tried to make their non conference schedule better this year but have had some bad luck with it. Battle of Atlantis was supposed to be their chance to get some big name matchups but then they got by Xavier who then went 0-3 down there, didn't get a chance to play Tennessee and then didn't get the big name loss to Kansas. Combine that with Notre Dame not being very good when they were preseason ranked it hasn't given them many opportunities. They really need to do a home/home with a big name school next year but so far they've done what was expected to this point but I still think the jury is still out to see how good they are. Probably won't get a real feel for them as a team until conference play.

Iowa should do home and home with Creighton of the Big east.

I'm the same way. A lot more to play for in that game...I will say it is always fun to beat Iowa though

I don't believe this for a second. If Iowa beats ISU, I would bet that 99% of ISU fans would trade the Michigan win for a win against Iowa. Both are non conference, so it means nothing that way, but beating Iowa shuts up the Iowa fan base.......Do you know how insufferable Iowa fan is gonna be if they walk into Hilton and come out with a win???

Michigan had Dickie V in the house, Rashad Vaughn in the house and Michigan was #7 in the country at the time...a lot more exposure. Nobody really cares about an Iowa/ISU game on ESPNU outside the state of Iowa. If ISU loses to Michigan they don't get ranked right away and don't get near the positive attention they have gotten. I think ISU wins but this game doesn't excite me compared to the Michigan game

There's another level to this? Impossible.
