What about BCS bowl wins?

Its great that UCF won their bowl game, very nice for the guys on that team. But it means very little in terms of program comparisons...as long as they are not in a BCS conference they are a lesser program. North Dakota State is playing for a national championship...again...but will always remain a lower level program. Likewise for UCF, and I don't meant that as an insult to either program...they are very good at their level which is all they can really do at this point. But that "level" is well below our own program.

UCF is at least a decade away from any invites to "Big Boy" conferences, and even that is iffy. Until it does elevate, it will remain a distant second to ISU's athletics and programs...in terms of salary, prestige, and every other factor related to Division 1 football.

Does the American (formerly the Big East) conference not count as a BCS Conference? UCF got an automatic birth to the Fiesta Bowl for winning the conference.

Yes, the grandfathered this year but that was a fluke of the old system dying out...one year with AAC getting a bid. UCF is a program with some potential, and I would love to see them grow into a BCS level competitor. Maybe in the 20's they reach a point where the Big 12 considers them as an option. UCF is a mid level program in a non-championship conference, akin to the MAC at this point.

Ok..Ive lost track of this thread I admit..I havent had time to read all the replys about page 25-40. With that in mind..does anyone think that North Dakota States coaches have the perfect time to move up/out of that program? Pure speculation as far as I know. Just asking

ISU probably needs to get someone named this week, as the new recruiting period opens up next week. I can't imagine any OC being named who is just able to walk in with two other coaches and there isn't a peep about it on twitter in this day and age.

Completely agree. I understand that Rhoads has to make sure he gets this hire right but at some point does it start to become an issue?

If it lingers past February I would consider it to be an issue.

Right now I would assume that the selection process is unfolding. I am hopeful. And I think Messingham's replacement will be a definite upgrade. Also the replacements for the other coaches as well.

I think it's pretty clear that coach K will be named with OC with additions to staff at the position level. As stated earlier no rumblings, twitter or other college statements. I have a feeling when the announcement is made we will all sigh. This hire by CPR is make or break for him.

Disagree with this statement, but I do agree it will be Coach K.

Our expectations are not that high. Go 6-6 and hopefully win a bowl game? Finish 7-6? We have to have a system that gets us to that level. This will be CPRs third OC hire.

So here is my only question, if he decided to hire coach K why wouldn't they announce by now? This is obviously speculation of course by all of us but I guess I don't see the benefit in waiting if Rhoads knows he is going to hire Coach K for OC.

It shows that due diligence was performed. If they hand him the keys the same day Mess is let go, it shows there was no effort to see what was available or upgrade your team. This way you can "talk" to many and make the same decision with a different public perception.

Based on what? We really know nothing of what is being done. It is all speculation. It could just as easily be a new OC from the outside.

I don't think it will be him. I feel like it would have been leaked by now from somewhere in the program.

Whoever the OC ends up being, I hope Rhoads basically hands them the offense and keeps his hands off for the most part.

There were rumblings on this site during the season that Mess wanted to take more shots down the field, but Rhoads was against it. Who knows if this is true, but if it is, then it says a LOT about our struggles. Rhoads knows defense. If it was Rhoads that was behind our offense being so conservative, then he has to keep out of it IMO, and let an expert handle the offense.

At this point, I'm almost hoping it is Coach K. and we just go completely with the Pistol. I just want our offense to have some kind of identity. This year it was a complete mess of about 3 different offensive philosophies all mixed together. We ran some of what Mess likes to do, some of what Klenakis likes to do (Pistol), and some of of Sturdy likes to do as well. And who knows how much influence Rhoads might have had too. It was a joke.

If we hand it over to Klenakis, just let him go all out full Pistol and see what happens IMO. My worry is we keep Klenakis as OL coach, hire some other OC, and then we end up running some of what the new OC wants, some of what Klenakis wants, etc. I just want everyone on the same page.
