Like I said, I get it. I understand. The students are excited after a very, very, very long dry spell and after a miserable football season. But it's time to stop being surprised by our success in BB. Doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. At the risk of waking my very tired two-year-olds I ran around in my underwear "silently" cheering in my hotel room during & after the Iowa game (it's not weird if it works).
I too think it will fade away. But in the meantime, we're talking about (mostly) teenagers here. The more you tell them "don't" the more obstinate they become. And that's much worse than two-year-old stubborn...I guarantee it! If the win was enough to make you dance mostly naked in a hotel room (I need brain bleach now), imagine how those screaming students felt? Plus, Hawkeyes.....!
No doubt it will fade somewhat if the winning trend continues. But honestly, I get tired of the posters who say "act like you've been there", and are so studiously casual about wins, and expect the students to do the same. Most of us were just as rowdy as these students when we were in their shoes. I hope we NEVER become so "entitled" that we don't get excited about wins.
You're right - I did assume Larry. My bad! I loved him too. The man had a drinking problem, but instead of quietly getting him to seek help (since Bruce the despicable knew about the drinking long before Miserygate), BVDV gave him the bum's rush. The inelegant way he was treated meant we ended up with our what? ninth choice? in Morgan, because everyone else said NO. Natty was partly to blame, but BVDV's hamfisted management style is (IMO) mostly to blame for our downward spiral in basketball. I'm glad Larry is back in business and is doing well at CSU, and I'm even more glad that BVDV's vanity earned him a kick in the nads from the Liberty Bowl promoters.
