If we play OU anywhere else than in Norman ISU blows them out by 20. Pretty pathetic performance really. They will take a nice 25 point beat down in Ames, and another beat down in the Big 12 tourney. Issue is, KU already won there, and now have a golden chance to basically put ISU out of the conference race if they can win at Hilton. ISU can't win the conference without beating KU at home now, it's that simple.

Our rebounding weakness was exposed against OU. Every team knows that is our achilles heel. Just have to fight to the death for those rebounds. If that means knocking some KU players teeth out, then so be it.

They have less prep time than we do and they get to play in Hilton, which is worth 5 points. Monte will step up.
I don't think you can say they have less prep time, considering ISU is now on a plane traveling back to Iowa. Unless CFH is so good he can run the team through some drills/game plays on the plane.

Now, granted, KU will bus or fly to Des Moines/Ames but that is a shorter trip, plus who knows? Self may be taking his team through some stuff right now since they are at home today.

I just don't think the prep time is a big factor.

Things ISU can control: Gave up way too many offensive rebounds, better FT shooting.

Things ISU can't control: Ed Hightower. Not the reason ISU lost, but it seems that I am never happy about any ISU game I know he is involved in (I probably have been happy, just didn't know he was involved).

EDIT: Hightower wasn't reffing today (thought I saw he was in the pre-game). Doesn't change the thought about him. We'll probably end up with him on Monday.

I know this isn't really that important, but it will be interesting to see where we end up in the polls after this week. I don't doubt that OU might jump into the Top 25. We beat #7 Baylor and then lose on the road to a tough OU team. I think we fall to #12 or #13. Thoughts?

ISU didn't play bad, OU just played better. They shot lights out and killed us on the offensive glass. OU's shooting doesn't bother me; I'd take that chance again.

There were 4 things that I was frustrated with, however:

1. Spangler getting all those O-rebs. Besides shooting the 3, their only offense was him getting offensive rebounds. I don't get why starting about halfway through the 2nd half we didn't take Hogue or Ejim and say "Your primary defensive assignment, above all else, is blocking out Spangler on every shot."

2. Niang was dominating on isolation in the 1st half. Why did we completely go away from that in the 2nd half?

3. I'm all bought in on shooting lots of 3 pointers. But there were too many quick 3's where guys weren't set. Primarily Ejim. He makes almost all his 3's stepping into the shot near the top of the key, and from the wing after a shot/drive fake. But he has to be set. He's not Tyrus.

4. This was the first game where it looked like we panicked at the end; by far the worst end of game play we've had. That possession (~1 min left) where Kane dribbled at the top of the key for 20 sec and then launched a contested 3 was terrible, followed by Naz shooting an off-balance 3 in 2 guys faces. We were down 6 with 45 sec left, plenty of time to take ~10 sec to find a good shot.

Anyways, not a bad loss, but we had chances to win at the end and just didn't execute. Now on to KU.

Depends on other results of teams nearby (haven't checked those yet), but OU loss will get less slack than the BU win will bring cred. (Didn't phrase that well, but you get what I mean)

Without the benefit of an alternate universe, I cannot prove this. But, if we lose Monday I think even if we win out (minus lawrence and the Big 12 referees)we are looking at a compromised seed. Setting up like every other year we have success but we just suffer at seeding.
Need to look up who the referees are going to be Monday night....that should be a treat. These cats are already getting video emails from Bill Self highlighting rules infractions the glorious KU industrial complex expect to be whistled.
Well.....on the bright side and being optimistic: it might be a hell of a ride to watch this team end up a 6 seed and win the whole freaking thing.

What was up with that possession? We went into a coma and no movement off the ball - it looked like Fred wanted DK to go 1-on-1 isolation, but it ended up looking stupid.

BTW - it was Morris who chucked up the trey with 2-secs. What a wasted possession and we were down 1

Georges Niang: I just think sometimes we get a little too comfortable with ourselves and think we can just show up and win games.

If that was the case, and they remember not to repeat that approach, it'll be a "positive loss."

Starting 14-0 and winning several games after large deficits might make a team fall into "just show up" mode.

Just a total blown play I suppose. But yeah I didn't remember exactly who shot it but it was the no movement, dribble out the clock that was the problem.

If refs ever start calling over the back on spangler he would foul out of every game.
I saw Spangler shove the guy with his right arm at the shoulder blades three straight times top get rebounds: Hogue and Monte and Ejim. He was using karate on our players.

The officiating was pretty good today. We got out hustled and outworked, period. Bring on KU.

KU has played 2 games in the conference and you know this already?

That, and I kind of think some of that is what makes a trap game a trap game. The undefeated, rated or higher rated team just gets comfortable with winning, they read a few too many of their press clippings, do a few too many interviews and they get convinced that they can just show up and win. They seem to forget how hard some of those wins were to come by. So, they end up taking an opponent too lightly and they think that they themselves are better than they really are, and they blow a game.

In the long run for this season, this game could be a good thing. It all depends on how the team reacts. Of course, the Kane injury complicates things a lot.

We didn't play horrible but we need to work on our dribble penetration D and rotate back out to cover the 15 + and 3 ball. Hustle pts not so good today but watch out Kansas.
