It was a challenge for me to get my friends to games around noon. I'm telling you a noon game for plenty of college kids would be like an 8am game for most normal adults.

How big is the dance marathon? Something that would legitimately take away 2100 basketball fans?

I think they should tell the students that they need to be in their seats 15 mins before tipoff.

Then, when there is 15 mins left to tipoff, sell the amount of tickets equal to the number of students absent to the general public at the student price. Could this be done?

Basically you're saying to the students, if you have a ticket you will always get into the game so long as you are here at least 15 mins before tipoff. If you aren't here by that time, you will risk not getting a seat because we might sell your seat to someone else.

So less then 5% of students equates to a big reason?
Chances are a good chunk of that 1200 are also student ticket owners. They are generally the kind of people that get out and do things.

But I agree that students' ability to fill the SS during most conference games isn't that good.

Lots of college students are lazy and manipulate their class schedule so 12:45 mid day is like 7am to a normal person.

Are you ripping yourself for being lazy?

JP's reaction should just be to over-sell more next year and at the same time introduce "firm" student tickets at a higher cost.

agree.

however, students should be allowed to sell to nonstudents for the upper deck. lower deck tickets are $x and upper level tickets are $ 1/2 x. people will pay more for good tickets and allows more people to get in if they want.

I'm ripping my friends as I did to their face back then, we couldn't even ever tailgate with them because it was a miracle to get to a game by noon. For night games they'd wait in line an hour or two to sit close. A noon game was like right out of bed for them and about half of the guys i knew in school.

I'm sure a noon game has more of an effect on student attendance than a dance marathon.

This is also why students who consistently attend should get first dibs at seats for "bigger" games like KU, OSU, Michigan, and Iowa.
