I knew several people who planned on not going because of the long lines in previous games, only to come after we texted them we were inside and there were good seats available. Thinking you have to wait outside for four hours in negative wind chill to get decent seats gets old pretty quick. I blame that as much as anything.

And you're going to handle refunding tickets how? You're making someone's job a gigantic PITA for not much gain. You still have ****** off students who paid for tickets and aren't getting to use them so you haven't gained anything.

You're creating barriers to entry for students. You're just encouraging students to only show up for big games which is the exact opposite of what you want. You want as many students in Hilton Coliseum as you can each night because you want to make them future donors. In order to do that you have to make it easy.

How many non-top 10 programs do you know of which sell out every game? The answer is not very many. We're no different.

You don't refund them if they do not pick them up. You do refund if they get turned away (but that happens currently).

It does make it more difficult for students to get to the game, I will concede that point, but students aren't filling out their section for anything but big games as it is. This at least allows reselling of tickets to fill out the section on a game by game basis.

I don't get this thinking. Who cares where you sit as long as you're in the building for a matchup of two top 25 opponents? Show up 10 minutes before tip for all I care... Just show up, especially if you have tickets.

Don't have the time to read all of this, but JP needs to realize that there might not be a full game the rest of the season. Why? People are discouraged to wait for games because they might not be able to get in. Forget all other factors, I know people who will not go wait because they don't even know if they can get in.
I do think this is an issue, especially when as cold as it has been, but the less students show up the harder it is to not oversell.

I am guessing you have never stayed in line for hours in the cold weather just to get turned away, right?. I keep going to every game, but I got say it is getting tiring. I love watching the cyclones play, but I am not gonna lie depending on the weather forecast I do consider not going to the game (Haven't done that yet tho).

You do not get people thinking it is not worth it to stand outside in extreme cold if you think the chance of getting in is low?

Dance Marathon is a better chance for nerds to hook up than at cyclone basketball. #freemarketwillfindtruth #keepoverselllingjamie

Some of you people are something else. Fundraising for Dance Marathon is a year round commitment. It's not an event where people get locked in a room and dance just to take up space. They get to spend the day with sick kids and their families. Some of their illnesses are terminal. A lot of students build relationships with these families over time. Would I trade away a bball game to give back to the community and maybe make a kid smile for one day? You're damn right I would. I commend kids that came to the marathon instead of going to the game. I agree, I'm ****** at people that missed the game because they were lazy or jumping off the wagon. No use trashing on the DM kids too. Isn't "Honor Before Victory" our motto?

For the record, I sold my ticket. No use letting it go to waste.

100% for students picking up tickets day before game. otherwise sell upperdeck tickets. students will always have lower deck. charge the ticket to their cycard when they pick it up and offer unused.tix for $15 or something.

Hilton in general just seemed to be lacking today. No 6th man impact on the game, IMO. The boys just got it done today.

Not going to enter the JP v. ISU Student Body fray (one is well versed in business decisions, the other is not), but I do have a request for the AD. Please consider flipping the student balcony section the west end of the arena so we don't have to stare at any more gaping holes in the seating during the national anthem. Old glory and Fred's jersey number deserve a better backdrop, especially for a must-win game featuring two top-25 teams.

Really? It sounded extremely loud on TV during critical moments of the game
It did have its moments, but not what I was expecting for a Saturday against a fellow Top-25 team. Got loud at the obvious moments (3's, fast-breaks etc.) but true Hilton Magic only occurs when fans are hellacious the entire 40 minutes.

No magic there today, but I didn't expect it. The crowd expected a win today, and I can't say I blame them. I think it says more about where the program is at than anything. That said, it still doesn't excuse the student attendance. No excuse for not being PRESENT for a midday match-up between top-25 teams.

I'll give Jaime the benefit of the doubt on this tweet. However, he should be the last AD in the country to be critical of his fans for anything. The support fans have given to his department far exceeds the amount of success his programs have given back to the fans. And the cause behind Dance Marathon should be very dear to his heart.

I guess I didn't read JP's tweet as a direct slam on the students. It was more a response to the complaining about the practice of overselling the student section. Essentially, if the students want guaranteed seats to big games, they need to attend the lesser games as well. Otherwise you're giving Jamie reason to continue to oversell the student section. As he's pointing out in his tweet.

Also, this must have been a very successful dance !Marathon to have more than 2100 students attend this rather than the game.

These kids today, don't know what you have.

Back in my day we had to walk 5 miles in a blizzard to see a Greg McDermott coached team

Wimp! Back in my freshman year of 1969, before global warming, I had to trudge in all the way from Wallace Hall to the Old Armory! Down coats were only for arctic explorers. I had an old wool Navy p-coat and worn out thin soled dingo boats. Pretty sure I actually froze to death several times and was revived. Yup, that's how I remember it.
