WVU is a VERY underrated team

They are much improved from earlier this season. We laid an egg. Defense was horrid. They aren't 25 points better than us. Thought we'd go a whole season without a game like this. Nope.

Here nor there
Maybe you've missed this game and the TCU game. When you have wide open threes all night long with no perimeter defense, yes it will happen more often than not. This is not bad luck and a team shooting out of their mind. It was pathetic perimeter defense for two games in a row.
Yep, the whole "opponent X was only shooting Y coming into the night" excuse needs to end. If you give opponents more open looks than they typically see, they are likely to shoot above their average. Your opponents 3P% shooting percentage may be a random distribution, but the impact of your defense (or lack thereof) is not. If you do not defend well, you are going to be frequently saying the other team shot a lot better than their average

Give some credit for the way we played to WVU who clearly took us out of our game. They might be our poison.....ya never know.
TCU scored 47 on us in the second half. Damn near 150 in the last three halves. Most of the credit goes to us unfortunately.

TCU averages 32% from 3 pt. They shot 39%. Not a good sign for our perimeter offense, but it wasn't terrible.

WVU averages 38% from 3 pt. They shot 60% tonight.

Your comparison is not even close, sorry.

I'm just saying, it appears we generally give teams a 5-8% boost in 3PT percentage because of our perimeter defense. It definitely needs some work, but +22% shooting average is just insanely bad luck.

Meltdown denied.

Virginia Tech and Purdue beat this team.

Oklahoma lost to Louisiana Directly School at home.
Michigan Big Ten co-leader lost to UNC Charlotte

Point being just because they lost to them early in the year, does not mean they are not playing very well now.

True, but they lost 5 non conference games, and have 10 losses already. If they lose 2 or 3 more, which is likely, there isn't much of a shot they get in.

Don't expect them in the tournament but they are playing pretty good ball lately. Still no excuse for losing by 27 to them.

Not even close to the same WVU team that lost to those teams.

Unfortunately for them, those 10 losses still count all the same. I don't see any way they go dancing as they have to play @Texas @ISU @OU, and they get KU at home as well. They will lose 3 of those, possibly all 4. No way they go dancing with 13 or 14 losses, they aren't a NCAA team.

EDIT: Posted this before I saw your next post.

I think its clear that we played about as badly as we could, while WVU played about as well as they could. I'm reserving judgement on them until they win a meaningful road game.

And we may be getting the rivalry with WVU that some have been wanting.

WVU is NOT a good team. They have lost 10 times, including to Purdue at home, and VT. Their best win is KState or OU. This is their resume builder now for sure. ISU will return the favor and beat them by 15-20 pts at home in a few weeks.

It's a moot point since it apparently hasn't been seriously approached all season, but if defense doesn't become a priority, ISU will in no way put a team like WVU away no matter where they're playing.

Not many games have felt like comfortable wins this year because of the lax defense.

I don't think we can really have a rivalry with West Virginia, no fan base overlap. And neither school cares about the other except when we play, just hard to have a rivalry if that's the case.

WVU was very impressive tonight. That said, pretty bad sportsmanship by both their players and coaches. The punch to the head of Morris, of course, but also why were all the WVU starters still in the game, shooting 3's with 2 minutes left up 30?? ISU was already playing almost all freshman and deep bench at that point. The game was in the bag; pretty weak IMO.

Why did their coach chew out a player after he fouled out when they were up by 30 and the player had over 15 points?
