I think Roy is shaking at the idea of what Edozie and SDW can do. You're being delusional.

No, but what made Niang so tough is that when you have a center that can play point, even with film it's hard to simulate that in practice and prep. Our point can play the four position, so although different, still a mismatch that can be hard to plan for. And with one day prep and limited film, it will be hard. This in one of the most versatile and unconventional teams we have had. Most teams have their bigs that can only play big and their smalls that only play small. We are so much different and all the film that UNC assistance have been watching up to this point is with our original five.

We have no capable bigs without Georges. We have smalls that can play big, and there's plenty of film to watch of them doing just that, as well as of Kane playing point. This game won't be decided by scouting disadvantages, it'll be decided by effort and execution. I like our chances in this matchup. Getting beyond that may be too much to expect.

If most of the posters here know what Niang's absence means to ISU, it seems at least reasonably likely that Roy Williams can figure that out as well--since he is, ya know, a college basketball coach.

I think Roy is shaking at the idea of what Edozie and SDW can do. You're being delusional.

He has no idea what this staff is going to do with them though. He has no idea what game plan Fred will come up with.

UNC is a really long team, but they aren't that big of a team, they usually only play two guys bigger than 6'5". I think we can get by playing Edozie just spot minutes (less than 10) if, Ejim and Hogue can stay out of foul trouble. If we get in foul trouble all bets are off and we could be in real trouble, but if we can keep Hogue, Ejim and Kane on the court I still feel OK about this game. Thomas is going to need to step up though as he will probably need to go 20+ mins tomorrow. He was aggressive driving against the Baylor zone, so hopefully he comes ready to play and steps up big for us. UNC is also a terrible three point shooting time outside of Paige, so this is not a team that will spread us out all over the court. We still have two first team All B12 players, time to ride them hard.

Sure he does, just watch film of us when Niang is on the bench. Do you think Fred is going to come up with a completely new offensive attack in one day? If we had someone on the bench good enough to be a focal point of our offensive game plan they would have been playing already.

Still in shock. I still have a slimmer of hope that he pulls a miracle and plays but that is just me being selfish and not wanting to face reality.

Doc is just ****** that not everyone has signed up to wave the white flag of surrender with him.

These should be your starters with Thomas, DW, Percy and Edozie coming off the bench. Unless Freddie throws reckless abandon and uses Bubu in the mix.

Bubu might honestly refuse to go in. If he's appealing for a 6th year.

Can't see Fred throwing all those guys in. I bet Naz starts, Thomas plays 20+ off the bench and Edozie gets 6-10 mins. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ejim, Kane and Hogue go all 40 if they can stay out of foul trouble.

Why in the worldwould we go 10 deep now that we lost one guy? Why would SDW and Bubu suddenly play when they haven't all year? Were going 7 deep with Edozie and Matt and that's it, not sure why anyone thinks otherwise.

I know Bubu will not play, but i can see SDW playing. I can see Edozie, Matt, and SDW coming off the bench.

I don't want to go deep into a Bubu discussion, but I do think that if he can contribute and help this team go farther into the tournament, it's a fabulous opportunity for him and ISU. The upside for him is redemption, the upside for the University is positive press and recognition. We are transfer U, giving second and third chances to others, but not Ames kids? A feel-good story can develop.

My read is that Leath's ego cannot allow this. The moment he pulled the "Honor Before Victory" line, it was clear.

Moot point, but that's what I've been thinking. Flame away.

Didn't Niang go 2 for 2 after breaking his foot. Georges Niang and Jake Knott are both personal heroes of mine.
There's another guy to add to the list, but I'm drawing a blank on the name right now. We had a football center back in the 80's or 90's who had a supposedly season ending injury to either his elbow or shoulder. He had his arm immobilized, taught himself to snap with his off-hand, and came back to start later in the season. You know that there is a lack of depth when a one-arm center is better than the next guy in.

He is going to put different things he. He has 2 days, he made changes in one day during the Big 12 tourney. He will put more plays in for other players.

One other person who could have a lot to say about adjusting to this as well.

Doc Sadler

I think this guy has some defensive schemes up his sleeve we haven't seen much of yet. Go back and look at some of our games and how he cranks up the Def at right point in 2nd half. Maybe we win this next one on the defensive end?

Put in Percy! UNC can't possibly game plan for him; maybe they won't know he goes left every time.

There's an obvious difference between "waving the white flag" and buying into the fiction that the other team has no idea how we'll play without Niang. If you were coaching UNC, however, I could buy that.
