Does anyone remember the riot in Ames the night we beat UCLA in the Sweet 16? Kind of forgotten after the VIESHA riot in 2005. The police presence wasn't as distinct....But I think there was way more property damage done.

Every street light on Lincoln way from MWL to Welch was pulled down, couple cars over-turned, and a news van got the roof collapsed. I also remember a couple hundred people ending up in Lake Luverne that night with the practice field goal-posts.

Such great memories

It is funny you bring this up, I was thinking about it the other day, I had some friends who had legal backlash after the fact with a TV station, because they jumped on the news van and were shaking it with the news crew in it. The good old days, when Ames had riot for very small reasons.... I remember a few years under MAC every year there was one win, where people would go to the practice field and tear down the post and throw them in Lake Luverne.....

In 2001 we rioted Because of the 1 year anniversary if the 2000 riots.

To be fair, 06 and 07 Veishea were awesome. Then the started splitting up the concerts making you pay to see them...
Yup.

The Spring 07 VEISHEA with the concerts on central campus was awesome. Great weather that year too.

After that they started the whole wrist band crap and moved it to the field where the Bio-Renewables building now stands. Eve 6 headlined, they moved it up a week into the last part of march, it snowed, VEISHEA sucked.

My friends and I subsequently spent VEISHEA weekend in Helser trying to break a coffee table by doing WWF style leg drops and elbow drops from a makeshift turn buckle made out of spare mattresses. Keystone was involved.

I remember heading out to the middle of towers where it started after the Michigan State lose (pretty sure it was the elite eight and not the sweet 16)

This year has been bringing up all those fond memories again. Specially since we will be playing Michigan State in the elite eight again.

I don't know if it started at Towers, but that's where I jumped in. A pseudo riot (against dry veisha) and elite 8 celebration at the same time. Said "hi" to Jischke at his mansion and then visited Jack Trice. The goalposts are indestructible fyi.

Yes it started in Towers. I had a front row seat and was encouraging them from my window.

I was walking along with the crowd starting at Towers. Lights were being broken all over the place. It was when I saw people breaking the window of US Bank that I decided that it was probably best to head home.

unfortunately I was on the first job interview of my career in Minneapolis. I was in a Motel 6 by myself with Pizza Hut delivery watching the game on tape delay because I was in Big Ten country…didn't even get the job so in hindsight wish I'd have been in Ames.

I was in Ames for the '98 parade/riot/festival when we blew out Iowa and snapped the football streak, which I"ll never forget. We broke the horn on my roommate's car, it made no sound by the end of the celebration. Bird...if you're out there...

A few years ago? Try 1997, nearly 20 years ago, when we ended the nation's longest losing streak against an even more pathetic Baylor team (I know because it was my first year at ISU and I helped toss those suckers into Lake Laverne. And it was something like 2 years later they made it impossible to tear down the goal posts by conventional means And it's been almost a decade now since McCarney coached at Iowa State. So isn't it about time to let the MAC bashing go?

I was in Auburn Hills so I missed out on the rioting. That's the only sad memory I have about that night. Got back to Ames at the end of the weekend and there was stuff broken everywhere.

If the only people that show up are the ones that actually attended the games this year, it shouldn't be too bad. :jimlad:
