How the hell would they find all the students involved last night? They might be able to get a few, but all of them? It would just be easier to cancel for a few years.

No, not all people could be caught but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be repercussions for those who you can prove were there and behaved badly. Poor behavior should have consequences.

I agree with you that consequences need to be brought, but that isnt enough IMO. A message needs to be sent that this behavior will not be tolerated.

VEISHA will get cancelled next year. The year after that I bet all events will take place on the weekend and there will be massive police presence. The third year will be more expanded. I was a senior in high school in 03-04 when the riots took place. I then had not VEISHA for my freshman year at ISU. It sucks, but it needed to be done.

Look at page one of this thread, people think the 2004 riot is funny, that is what happens.

What's this VEISHA you speak of?

I think cancelling VEISHEA would be using the proverbial shotgun approach. The vast majority of students weren't involved. I think the City of Ames and ISU should make a good faith effort to find out who was involved and bring the hammer down on those individuals. There seems to be alot of video.

I don't understand the behavior. I was a student during the riots of 1992. My girlfriend (now wife), a couple of friends and I walked down from Towers and walked right into that mess on Lincoln Way & Welch. We all looked at each other and decided we had better things to do. (Admittedly, our decision was aided by the fact we were all underage and were pretty well lit up.) Nevertheless, I would rather sit around and drink beers with friends then pull down a light post. Seriously, who does that?

I hope the injured kid is ok. Whoever was involved in knocking over the street lamp that hit him better be praying to God that the kid is ok. Once fully identified, there will be charges, and if the incident resulted in a death, those would be some life changing charges.

Another VEISHEA riot. ISU made CBS's national morning show, so embarrassed.

This. I turned on the TV this morning just in time to see us on their national show. I didn't even realize VEISHEA had started already.......and then you have a group of idiots embarrassing all of us who have ties to the university. It's time to cancel this thing once and for all, which is a damn shame because it's only a small group of idiots that cause trouble each year. But you just cannot continue having the bad publicity, damage and personal injuries that these morons cause, all while thinking its funny.

I wondered if people would misinterpret what I meant. I'm not saying the Ames PD is to blame but they could have avoided it by routing the busted party in a direction away from Welch. Happened in 2004, happened again this year.

How do you suggest they do that? When I was at those parties everyones next destination was Welch to find the next party. I don't care what the cops did the large majority were going to end up at Welch no matter what.

Just cancel it for ever and be done with it, I think we've proven now that people can't handle it. Stuff has been going on for years and they keep bringing it back thinking it'll all be better and it's clearly not.

I think it is funny that when we play West Virginia we love the fact that we can call it "The Riot Bowl" but the morning after the incident that justifies that name everyone is on their high horse scolding those involved.
