I'm pretty sure he'll act fast and hard. He understands how big reputation is to a University and I'm pretty sure he's going to drop the hammer quickly and forcefully. And I'll be supporting him.

Yeah, I know the original quote was sarcastic, but I'd expect a response from the university before noon today.

I'm hearing second hand that:
1. Unfortunately that guy died
2. Leath is canceling veishea

Hoping both are wrong.

I've been hearing the former since about 5:30 this morning. That the announcement is being delayed because they were trying to contact family and because they had good video of the people tearing the lamp post down and were waiting for facial recognition to do its job.

But mine isn't even second hand. It's a friend of a friend knows a nurse who blah blah blah.

I've heard the rumors, but I'm hoping they were smart enough to stay clear in the back and not DO anything. Even for being there, if I'm FH, I suspend them for a game or two next season to send a message.

So we wouldn't start anyone or only have 5 guys for a whole game.

Wish they could just punish those that were involved and not the 98% of those that celebrate Veishea the right way. I'll be devistated if I can't take my little one to the parade Saturday. There are too many that have worked too hard on good things this year to just cancel it all. I hope cooler heads use common sense and keep the activites that do not involve drinking.

Has this video been posted yet? I can't imagine being a cop in that situation, knowing how badly you're outnumbered and that **** could get real at any minute.

Ok, maybe I need to be a bit more clear.

The word I'm hearing from the people that I talk to, who would know, is that, while the majority of kids involved were ISU students, there is a healthy contingent who are not. There were 4 dumpster fires in Ames sunday night, and the people that are suspected to be responsible are a group of chicago residents (who live in chicago currently) that are here because of the week-long party, and are actively looking to start havoc.
Chicago is quickly going down hill. I know lots of people that move to our town inSE Iowa and then just collect benefits for a few years and then move back. It also has something to do with their subsidized housing only lasting so many years.

My three-year-old said this when we explained things to her in a subdued manner: "If the police ever tell me to go home, I'll call my mama to come get me and the police will tell me I did a good job."

Why is a preschooler so much smarter than several hundred students?

It's just a shame that a small handful are jacking this up for thousands of other students, alumni, and families.

Well the preschooler isn't 8 Jack and Coke's deep :jimlad:.

It is a shame though. Idiots.

wait, it's a shame the preschooler isn't 8 jack and cokes deep?

Also, I appear to have passed the 1000 post mark sometime yesterday. I feel like that's important or something.

Wait until that 3 year old gets 8-12 bug juices deep! The story will change

And that video right there ******* pisses me off. That video right there tells you why you can't blame a cop for how they handle these things. They're out in front of 2,000 angry, drunk, violent kids when they could be like us sitting at home with our kids. I don't question them for their handling, I applaud them for their restraint.

How can anybody say that VEISHEA should continue when our own students act like that?

These kids, the students, were expecting a week of partying. Taking it away from them is just going to make them angry, and you're not going to be able to keep them from getting alcohol. They'll get angry, frustrated, and drunk, and that's a recipe for violent and stupid.

s.

They should be angry because their VEISHEA has been hijacked by some dumb rioters, not because they can't get alcohol. It's time for the students to take a stand: hey, we want to drink but we don't want riot.

Eff that. Shut it down. Cancel it. Anyone in that crowd, even if they weren't doing anything, should be ashamed.

YOU DON'T KNOW!

Just kidding, but you're right - it's weird how alcohol is a depressant but causes so many people to get aggressive. Watching that video 3True posted above just terrified me. Can you imagine being in that situation, and it wasn't even really getting bad yet?

It's over. Sad to see it go. Maybe they can bring some activities back under a new name. But riots are now the thing people look forward to on Veishea, the two go hand in hand, and there is no going back now.

I would look into rebranding it, and making it super lame, no more concerts, no activities even close to welch.

It's all from one of the employees, but here is what I got.

Guy, drunk off his McCaffery, comes into Jimmy Johns with a toaster and a loaf of bread. He's bragging about stealing both of them from a house party he was at. He wants them to give him the makings of a sandwich, but he doesn't need their bread, he stole his own. They wont give him the fixings, but they will sell him a sandwich and let him tear it apart if he wanted. He demanded to speak to a manager about the not-selling-him-handfulls-of-meat shenanigans, and the employee lied and said he was the manager. The drunk guy acquiesced and bought a sandwich.

He then plugged in the toaster in the little hallway of seats there, stuffed the toaster full of bread, and started it. When the over-stuffed toaster couldn't stop toasting because it was overstuffed, it started to smoke a little. He got scared, stood up, and walked out, leaving a smoking toaster in the back. He said that the toaster lit on fire, but there was no real damage.

Again, this is just what I heard from a guy who was working there at the time.

As it is not really related to Veishea or the riots, that is pretty funny. I mean that could happen any weekend and hopefully no one got hurt as a result of this *******, but that story made me chuckle.

Serious? You would suspend people for standing out on the street and watching something happen? As long as they didn't do anything wrong they have a right to be there.

Part of the problem. I don't know if I'd suspend a player for it, but anyone standing around watching is a moron who participated in it getting out of hand like it did.

But they should be ashamed for not trying to stop the 2000+ crowd themselves right? :jimlad:
