What other HS 7 footers are coming to the NCAA this year? Are there other potential Joel Embiid's out there? Or did we get the only one?

Wait a minute, we still have people who do not trust Mayor's good judgment?

If you actually read it, I'm not questioning his judgement at all, in fact, I say that I'm all for the move. With that said, I bet Hoiberg even agrees with my statement that he is somewhat rolling the dice on this guy, and he is probably perfectly fine on it. To say that good recruiting is one where you are totally sure of the outcome of all these guys before they even step foot on campus isn't true at all. Every guy is a roll of the dice to some extent, but some are more so than others. I think CFH fully knows that this guy is far from a sure bet and with our current scholarship/talent/returning players situation, him signing him up probably isn't too much more than thinking why not? Shoot, he hasn't even seen the guy in person even. All I was saying is that if there is a time to sign someone like this, now is the time to do it, so lets toss the dice and see what happens. We really have nothing to lose with it.

Please tell me you dont have illusions of this kid starting/ playing this year?

Please don't tell me you think you are any better equipped to judge his potential than anyone else here based on two, grainy youtube videos.

The kid is 7'1" and he runs and moves his feet very well for his size. He could be a nice change up to play with Georges and benefit from some dump offs around the hoop similar to Percy/RW.

I personally think he'll see some action this year. While McKay is sitting, he should be able to tune up against lesser competition by getting 10-15 min/game and then provide us 5-10 min of reserve time down the stretch.

Based on his videos, I think he's far more athletic than Woodbury, although probably not as filled out.

There can't be many seven footers hitting high school range 3s, let alone hitting international distance 3s

Are you more able to tell his potential?
No one is questioning the move, but how much he will impact the team as a freshman.

“As an elementary school student in Greece I started playing basketball having a dream, a big dream, for a country boy from a small rural town named Katerini.” Tsalmpouris said. “I hoped that one day I would be able to cross the Atlantic Ocean and playing basketball at a big university. Today I feel blessed because my dream came true on the best possible scenario. I am joining the Iowa State basketball team. I am so grateful to Coach Hoiberg and Coach Abdelmassih who recruited me and gave me the opportunity to learn from the best and contribute to the future success of the Iowa State basketball program.”

Sounds like we won't have to worry about him not making to campus this fall.

I'm predicting he starts all season, averages 20mins, 10pts, 5 boards and 2 blocks.

It also means that Hogue and Nader will see much more time at the 3, we'll go "small" (3 guards) much less than the last couple years, and that McKay is a bench-energy guy.

This is a really big deal, the team just got a ton better. I would be surprised if we didn't score more next year than we did this year. The team is just loaded.
