Honestly question though, what does Iowa have over ISU in terms of facilities? TODAY Jack Trice is not where Kinnick is, but the distance is very slim now with the renovations coming next offseason. Plus nothing against Iowa, but I almost fell asleep two years ago in the stands. In-game experience leaves something to be desired.

As far as the in game experience goes, I think Iowa is way ahead of ISU in that department. Obviously Im biased, but people on here, and other clone fans I have talked with have said the same thing. Obviously the Iowa v ISU game in Ames is going to be a madhouse and great experience, but thats cause its a fierce interstate rivalry. Ive caught a couple of conference games at Trice where you guys played a couple middle of the road teams and it just wasnt as exciting as I thought it would be. Again, Im biased, but others have said the same thing.

As far as the facilities go, three yrs ago, you guys were way ahead of Iowa. However, with the building of the new practice facility, offices, training rooms, etc, Iowa has caught up and put themselves in a good place. Im not saying they are the best in the world, but they arent in the basement like they used to be.

Having said all that, I still think he picks ISU cause of his visit, depth chart (stated he wants to play early and Iowa is a bit backed up), and relationship with the coaches.

Iowa is just wrapping up a 60 mil football facility. Can't imagine its any worse than ours - but its probably not that much better either. Kinnick is better than JTS. We have better fans but lets be honest, JTS is a dump. The renovations will absolutely help. I'd guess Kinnick would still rate higher but it closes the gap. Our tailgaiting is much better, though.

Define "better". More convenient and organized? Yes, but overall tailgating atmosphere, no way man. I always say, take out the biggest game of your schedule and the worst game of your schedule, then look at it. If you average it out, IC is a much more fun experience. And yes, ive been to both during non Iowa V ISU weeks.

You've been a pretty mild and neutral hawk on here, and that is appreciated, but you are 100% wrong about this. ISU has better tailgating, hands down and it isn't even close. And very rarely if ever do fans in Ames hurl full beer cans at opposing teams fans. Comparing Ames and IC is a whole different topic.

In what aspect is JTS a "dump"?

1) Neither side bowled in (yet)
2) Tiny press box that is showing its age
3) video board looks like an interstate sign
4) aging infrastructure, especially in west stands
5) one of the worst in the b12 for sure
6) the culvert they built in 12' that the players come out of is dumb
7) hillsides look ugly on tv, unless completely filled (then they look like actual seats)

just my $.02

You are right and wrong. ISU tailgaiting is the best in the state for sure. But I saw beer cans getting chucked at some loud mouth Texas fans last fall. Not that they didn't deserve it.

Calling something a dump usually means it is old and dirty. All you did was point out the things you don't like about the stadium. And they all pretty much come from the perspective of a hawk fan. JTS is in no way a dump. And the SEZ will take care of most of that outside perception.

You'd probably disagree with me if I called Kinnick a dump, so I won't bother going there.

The seats we had the last two years have had chunks of concrete falling off in that section.

The restroom and vending upgrades helped for sure.

Yeah - the other stuff are things I don't like about the stadium. I could care less if Hawk or Kstate fans would agree (or disagree). The SEZ updates will be a major upgrade - I think we can both agree with that.

FWIW, I haven't been to Kinnick since the 06' game. It may very well be showing its age too.

Typical hawk fan..can't admit ISU has ANYTHING better than Iowa. I literally have tons of hawk friends and every single one of them is jealous of ISU's tailgating setup. I've never come across a single hawk fan that doesn't say they wished Iowa's was set up like JTS. You just look stupid saying anything different. You don't have to say you hate Iowa's (although many hawk fans do)...just admit ISU's tailgating is better. Good grief...

This. Iowa City is set up horribly for tailgating and the cops do anything they can to make it worse

Thanks man, I try to keep things in perspective. I dont know about mild though..... I do have a tiger hawk tattoo

Yeah, as far as crappy fans go, Iowa does have their fare share of them, but as someone pointed out, others do too. For instances, when I was in Ames for 23-3 game, I almost got in about 8 fights, and I wasnt causing a single one of them. That crap just happens. I have seen hawk fans do it, and other fans do it as well. Im assuming youre using an iowa v isu experience, too, in your argument. That crap happens, i guess. Not saying its right or acceptable by any means, it just is what it is. Now I will say, Iowa tailgating isnt what it used to be. Sally Mason has made it a big objective (which kinda sucks) to curb the "over partying" or whatever the hell she calls it.

I guess tailgating is what you make of it, but you can find quite a few top 25 or top 30 best college football tailgating sites, and Iowa usually makes those lists.

Anyone who complains about our giant video board is either a hawk or should be shot. Yes, the facade isn't as pretty as some completely rebuilt stadiums. They just weren't willing to tear down the Jacobson building and rebuild. But that this is ******* awesome and we're getting ANOTHER ONE!

Just to be clear, I wasn't accusing you of being a hawk fan. Just that all the things you listed seem to be the go-to lines for them to put ISU down. Obviously loose and falling concrete is not good, but I'd like to think (hope) that those areas are few and far between.

Anyway, this is a recruiting thread so I'm going to drop this discussion.

Yeah, saw that this morning. Should be a good battle. He seems to really like both of our schools. I havnt really read up on his recruitment with BSU. Could be one to watch out for, too.

Maybe he thought like half the country that Boise is the capital of Iowa and just really loves our state.

Isu fans mostly thonk it is clear cut and most of my hawk friends think ISU has the advantage in this department. I however agree with you somewhat. Iowa tailgaiting has character with the old time back yard experience magic bus etc. ISU is lik a 400 acre party that is pretty intense and all in one place and Clones go all out. They are both pretty great imo and are better than most in the country. I would say the state of Iowa is pretty good at building communit and having festivals in general and tailgating is no exception. It is just part of the Iowa culture. Our Fairs, community festivals, RAGBRAI even things like bacon fest are things other states try and copy and they never can match our events considering our population. Anyway my two cents. I dont think eother are better just different depending on preferance but both are pretty great.

Yeah, thats a good way to put it- It is what you make of it. I, personally enjoy the back yard style more than the openness, but thats just me.

Lol, yes back to recruiting. That Ozigbo fella....
