I personally wouldn't mind seeing a non conference game for us on Fox Sports 1. Like lets say South Carolina, Iowa, or the CBE classic. I don't think we can for Arkansas or Iowa and I'm not sure what the TV rights are for the CBE classic but it seems like it would be another great way to get ISU Basketball another national broadcast. I personally would like to see less games on Cyclones TV because that means more people could watch it. Kansas always seems to have a game vs. Tennessee Tech or some crap team broadcasted nationally. I'm not saying we have the same size of fan base but it would be a great way to market our team/brand

Here's your downer question for the day: Is getting a game on Big Monday really that big of a deal any more? We get lots of games on ESPN and it seems like ESPNU is even getting to be pretty commonplace on cable/satellite packages. Once you get below a certain age-range, is it really perceived as this big prestigious showcase anymore? I know coming from just an ISU/Big 12 fan standpoint it doesn't really have much bearing on how excited I am for specific match-ups.

There are no other games on at the same time during Big Monday, so all college basketball eyes are on you. Yes, it is a big deal.

If I had a choice of Big Monday on the road or not having any Big Monday games at all, I would choose none. The quick turnaround from a Saturday game is so tough. Coming into this past season, Kansas's record on Big Monday was 27-1 at home, 22-15 on the road. And we all know that KU has the refs in their pocket so those road losses were legit.

I like the idea of national exposure but I like winning more. Win and you will get national attention.

Here are the figures for this past season's Big Monday games in terms of number of viewers.

Kansas @ Iowa State: 1.5 mil
Baylor @ Kansas: 1.1 mil
Oklahoma State @ Oklahoma: 1.3 mil
Iowa State @ Oklahoma State: 1.4 mil
Kansas @ Kansas State: 1.4 mil
Oklahoma State @ Baylor: 1.0 mil
Oklahoma @ Kansas: 1.7 mil
Kansas State @ Oklahoma State: 1.3 mil

For some context, here's a couple more games:

Iowa State vs. Kansas (Big 12 semifinal on ESPNU): 400k
Iowa State vs. Baylor (Big 12 championship on ESPN): 1.7 mil

Looking at all ESPNU games for all conferences, I didn't find a single game with over 700k viewers, and only one with more than 600k (Clemson @ Syracuse on a Sunday night). In fact, it looks like the second-most viewed game on ESPNU all season last year was Iowa State @ Kansas, with 450k.

Considering all this, I do think ESPN is a huge cut above ESPNU.

Here's the website I viewed: http://www.sportsmediawatch.com/201...mbers-for-every-game-of-the-2013-14-season/3/

^^^ This.
I was thinking the same thing but didn't want to do the research (kudos CYFan).

Getting more non-CYCLONation eyes on Hoiball is great for the program moving forward and being the marquee game on has benifits. Highlighted on ESPN as the game of the day (on Sportscenter, halftime show, bottom line), almost every bar will have the game on just out of habit, it is good for recruiting both for players to see and allow the staff to point to national games they will get to play in if they play in Hilton, also allows reconition to CFH and players like Ejim and Kane last year to get post season awards.
Alot of national MBB fans just ignore the 6PM ESPNU game, as shown above, if their Team/Conference isn't involved. I want as many Big Monday games that ISU can lock down as possible.

That's a pretty good road record actually. Far better than any Big 12 team. It's always tough to win on the road regardless. It's really not much different than playing Wednesday and Saturday again.

I vaguely remember a quote from Hoiberg about not necessarily liking the quick turn-around, but how it was great preparation for the postseason.

I agree that it is ridiculously hard to win a road game on two days turnaround. It's even harder because you are most likely getting pitted against one of the best opponents in your conference. I hate that KU gets stuck with so many tough Monday road games. It makes winning the conference that much tougher. KU and Oklahoma State had 2 Big Monday road games. Oklahoma, ISU, KSU and Baylor had 1. Texas, TT, TCU and West Virginia had zero.

Wednesday-Saturday is 50% more preparation time, which is a big deal. Saturday-Monday basically eliminates the ability to properly recover from the Saturday game before you have to prep for the Monday game.

As a fan it sucks having to wait from Monday all the way until Saturday to see your team play again.

Great info! ESPNU has been a godsend for me. I live out west, and wouldn't be able to get many games if it weren't for ESPNU. However, clearly ESPN is where the viewership is for the conference.

That is the downside of having the most Big Monday games of anyone - you may actually have to play one or two of them on the road.

This is a good point. If you are playing Wednesday-Saturday all season long, the Big 12 tournament will be a nasty surprise. And the NCAA tournament won't be much better, either.

Rothstein is announcing a lot of the first round holiday tourney matchups on Twitter. Assuming ISU will find out their first round for the CBE soon.

It is a 96% winning percentage at home vs. 59% on the road. Winning 59% on the road isn't bad at all but that is a big difference. In the Bill Self era, KU wins 95% at home and about 73% on the road. Obviously the Big Monday road record should be a little worse because the opponents are all higher quality. That just goes to how tough these road games are. As I said, we all know that KU gets the benefit of every call and yet they only win 59% of Big Monday road games?

Like I said, I would rather have the extra days to prep. We have a legit chance to challenge for a conference title this year. I want all possible advantages to go for us instead of against us.

An argument could be made we're the most difficult team in the conference to prepare for because our style is unorthodox. Giving the opponent more time to prep could do us more harm than good.

We only played on there twice this past year - once in January and once in early February. I wonder how much it actually helps versus Hoiberg trying to find some positive to it.

Fred knows about team psychology and psychologically there is a benefit to a team when they are going into something different - the quick turnaround of a tournament in this case - and the coach can remind the team (especially the newcomers) that they have all been there, done that.
