ESPNU requires you to get the extra sports package for many cable providers.
Yeah, our Xfinity basic package in Florida does not include it. However, you'll be pleased to know I can watch any of 38 Spanish Language channels, so there's that.

Here's your downer question for the day: Is getting a game on Big Monday really that big of a deal any more? We get lots of games on ESPN and it seems like ESPNU is even getting to be pretty commonplace on cable/satellite packages. Once you get below a certain age-range, is it really perceived as this big prestigious showcase anymore? I know coming from just an ISU/Big 12 fan standpoint it doesn't really have much bearing on how excited I am for specific match-ups.
There are no other games on at the same time during Big Monday, so all college basketball eyes are on you. Yes, it is a big deal.
Here are the figures for this past season's Big Monday games in terms of number of viewers.
Kansas @ Iowa State: 1.5 mil
Baylor @ Kansas: 1.1 mil
Oklahoma State @ Oklahoma: 1.3 mil
Iowa State @ Oklahoma State: 1.4 mil
Kansas @ Kansas State: 1.4 mil
Oklahoma State @ Baylor: 1.0 mil
Oklahoma @ Kansas: 1.7 mil
Kansas State @ Oklahoma State: 1.3 mil
For some context, here's a couple more games:
Iowa State vs. Kansas (Big 12 semifinal on ESPNU): 400k
Iowa State vs. Baylor (Big 12 championship on ESPN): 1.7 mil
Looking at all ESPNU games for all conferences, I didn't find a single game with over 700k viewers, and only one with more than 600k (Clemson @ Syracuse on a Sunday night). In fact, it looks like the second-most viewed game on ESPNU all season last year was Iowa State @ Kansas, with 450k.
Considering all this, I do think ESPN is a huge cut above ESPNU.

Basically when we sucked. Also, the last time we won we came off a bad year.I can recall multiple Saturday games for KU in Hilton. Last win for ISU was a Saturday, Craig Brackins big game was a Saturday.
That's a pretty good road record actually. Far better than any Big 12 team. It's always tough to win on the road regardless. It's really not much different than playing Wednesday and Saturday again. If I had a choice of Big Monday on the road or not having any Big Monday games at all, I would choose none. The quick turnaround from a Saturday game is so tough. Coming into this past season, Kansas's record on Big Monday was 27-1 at home, 22-15 on the road. And we all know that KU has the refs in their pocket so those road losses were legit.
I like the idea of national exposure but I like winning more. Win and you will get national attention.

I agree that it is ridiculously hard to win a road game on two days turnaround. It's even harder because you are most likely getting pitted against one of the best opponents in your conference. I hate that KU gets stuck with so many tough Monday road games. It makes winning the conference that much tougher. KU and Oklahoma State had 2 Big Monday road games. Oklahoma, ISU, KSU and Baylor had 1. Texas, TT, TCU and West Virginia had zero.If I had a choice of Big Monday on the road or not having any Big Monday games at all, I would choose none. Wednesday-Saturday is 50% more preparation time, which is a big deal. Saturday-Monday basically eliminates the ability to properly recover from the Saturday game before you have to prep for the Monday game. That's a pretty good road record actually. THIS!!!As a fan it sucks having to wait from Monday all the way until Saturday to see your team play again.
I vaguely remember a quote from Hoiberg about not necessarily liking the quick turn-around, but how it was great preparation for the postseason.

This is a good point. If you are playing Wednesday-Saturday all season long, the Big 12 tournament will be a nasty surprise. And the NCAA tournament won't be much better, either.
We only played on there twice this past year - once in January and once in early February. I wonder how much it actually helps versus Hoiberg trying to find some positive to it.
