The next step for this program that will put us on the top step is consistantly beating Kansas. Most people think Big 12 and only think KU. The rest of us are good, but no one is consistantly beating KU. To be the most dominate league in America, some other teams need to step up.
Beating each other up makes no difference when comparing to the other conferences. We need several Big 12 teams to beat up on other conferences in both the non-con and the ncaa tourney to prove where the best basketball is played.

Iowa state has been very impressive for 3 years in the tourney. Beat uconn who was on a hot streak. That game was a complete domination. Dominated Norte dame. Fell in a tough game where a starter was injured in second half. Obviously the terrible charge call (the second bad officiating to stance that year that got national attention). And last year got to sweet 16 even missing a key player. Twice lost to eventual national champions in locations less than 2 hours from their campus.

Iowa state has done the conference well on national stage. Other teams that get hype, not so much.

Sweet 16's doesn't give the conference respect. The Big 12 needs more Final Fours. 2 Final Fours in the last decade is not enough. KU needs to get to more and the some of the other schools need to get there. ISU, Texas and KU are all legit FF caliber teams. It would help if the Big 12 had multiple teams in the FF this year.

I don't think that's a fair assessment. Going back six years, the only Big 12 teams that haven't made it to the Elite Eight or better at least once are us, Tech, TCU, and Oklahoma State (WVU made it in the Big East, and Missouri made it once under Anderson).

That doesn't take anything away from us, nor does it mean that there haven't been some major let-downs, but I think the rest of the conference deserves a lot of credit.

It never seems to help the SEC. It's also pretty rare...this was the first year since 2009 (Big East) that a conference had more than one team in the Final Four...and we only have ten teams to the SEC's 14 and the Big East's 17.

Call me a homer, but I find it hard to be dissatisfied with Kansas' three Elite Eights, one runner-up, and one national championship under Bill Self.

I don't think he meant it to be any more than a cheap pot shot at KU to try to get my hackles up. No worries. All I am saying is that for the Big 12 to be considered the best conference they need to put the majority of their tourney teams past the first round, multiple teams to the Sweet Sixteen and beyond and win a good percentage of their high profile non-con matchups. ISU is doing their part in building towards that. They just need to keep that momentum. The Big 12 also needs Texas and Kansas to live up to their hype come tourney time this year and they need one or two of their mid-tier teams to win a tourney game or two.

I share several views expressed in the past few posts, regarding Big 12. My 'consolidation' of those:

-- Schedule well and perform extremely high in non-conference. It boosts league's overall resume.
-- More teams taking a slice of the pie for league title. Several different schools consistently able to win, not just Kansas, and not only happening if KU is a little 'off' in certain years.
-- For postseason, secure high number of bids, with strong seedlings, have most teams advance at or above seeding, 'share the wealth' for elite 8 and final four, multiple schools making occasional threat for title.

That was the way it played out 2013-14. I thought we had an excellent schedule last year and our record showed it. Here's to hoping we have a very favorable 2014-15 schedule that helps us out with these 3 Big Monday games in a row!

I respectfully disagree. We had an extremely tough stretch near the start of conference play last year:

Jan 7th vs Baylor
Jan 11th @OU
Jan 13th vs Kansas
Jan 18th @Texas
Jan 25th vs Kansas st
Jan 29th @Kansas
Feb 1st Vs OU
Feb 3rd @Ok St

We got lucky and Ok st. and Baylor were on semi-slumps when we got them... but I don't think we had a good schedule. The 2nd half after this stretch got easier, but I'd rather have some games to catch our breath in than the s*** storm we got to begin the big 12 schedule last year.

Baylor was 12-1 and ranked 7th in the nation when we wrecked them at Hilton.

Edit: Hit 9 instead of 7 initially.

My grandfather got his incoming freshman eye exam from Dr. James Naismith himself back in the late 1920s so sorry, no fairweather KU fan here. It has been inbred in me since long before I was born. And yes, I do know several ISU fans/grads here in Omaha but there is also a surprisingly large number of KU grads here as well. But I wouldn't go so far as to call Omaha a Cyclone town.

So last year the ESPN Gameday schedule was released on August 14, about a week after the Big Monday schedule was released. So hopefully we find out that one here in the next few days.

Wonder if they release the times of the games with the schedule today? Should be easy to figure out if we are Gameday if the KU game is at 7-8 on a Saturday.
