We only need to pay him $5 mil to fire him. That is doable. If we didn't have the new TV contract then CPR would be here thru 2021, but we have $25 mil a year in revenue we didn't have last year. Now most of that has likely been spent already paying back the board of regents loan on all the new facilities but I'm sure we can find $5 mil easily.

I let the season shake out and see where the donors are at. If there is enough push to get rid of him, he will be gone.

You're in Pollard's position. What are your thoughts? What are you thinking? If I am the AD, knowing the contract of the current coach is extensive, it doesn't mean this game isn't an earmark for what the future holds. There is a LOT riding on keeping fans interested in Iowa State FB. A LOT. You cannot build that new south endzone knowing that a certain amount of fans are going to start becoming not interested on a regular basis. I would look at this season as two wins maximum based on what I saw today. I wouldn't do anything in terms of getting rid of Rhoads at the end of the season even if we went 0-12. But next year would be it. The team must win at least 7 games with what we have and anything less is it. And I realize that means a huge buyout but a string of crappy seasons just can't fly in this day and age and to keep donors and the fan base GROWING, a change would have to be made I think. Just curious what others would do if you're the AD.

Based on history (not my opinion)... Iowa State is a horrid football program. Our MO is getting 6 weak wins and going to bowl games in wretched cities like Shreveport and Memphis. If we go 2-10, but we beat Iowa, the season is deemed a success.

It doesn't matter who we bring in, they will not get 10 wins. It's never happened. It never will. So, perhaps it's time we bring down our expectations, come back to reality, and hope that Paul is prepping the troops for the Iowa game. Forget next week and the rest of the season. We don't need to fire Paul. He's successfully executing the strategy of a miserable program.

In summary, college football is a waste of time, money, and emotion for Iowa State fans. Store up all of those things. Take a few extra shots of Wild Turkey on Saturdays and get ready for basketball season - November is near.

As an AD you start going to practices if you don't already. If the staff has lost the team you pull the plug in season if not you ride out the season while exploring options of how to get out of it if necessary.

We could always just put Salvation Army buckets outside of games and around town that have "buyout" on the side of them. Hell, everyone could do neighborhood bake sales and pot luck dinners. After yesterday I'll even donate a semi load or two of corn to it.

Small town style fund raising to start this thing.

I would have fired the entire staff, everyone. I would have went across the way and asked the NDSU staff, the entire staff down to the athletic trainers, and or equipment managers, and asked if they would all like to move into bigger digs next week. Or hire the entire Grand View staff etc.. Drastic yes, but you'd be hard pressed to hire anyone that could be worse then what we we've seen. 5 years and 1 game is a lot of time to get your self ingrained in Ames. Not just because of the loss, but because the style of play I see every year is of a powder puff offense that gets its butt kicked by every single team we play every year. Lots of injuries, and Lots of weak play up front. Has nothing to do with size or strength and everything to do with style. UNI didn't get beat up by Iowa, we get beat up by everyone!

If I'm JP I know my services are valuable to any number of colleges. I get out before having to deal with the football situation and let the next guy deal with it.

I would be thinking about why in the heck I scheduled some Top 5 FCS programs from now until 2050. These are seriously no win situations and not to sound too much like a Hawk fan as they had their own problems yesterday. Take the approach that both Baylor and Kansas St have used and schedule some cupcakes. At least for the first game.

1000% agree. Ive been banging the Fire Rhoads drum for a year now, and its impossible to say we are not regressing. If you really want to make yourself sick.....keep in mind Art Briles came in at Baylor about the same time Rhoads did here. And dont say 'Well he has Texas to recruit"....if thats all it was...Baylor would have been great a long time ago. He was the right guy and knew WTF he was doing.

Biggest issue i have is we have sold out stadium, new scoreboard, new weight room (Which is that getting used?) and going to have a new endzone......you only have so long to capitalize on that with recruits before its "not new" anymore...and someone else has the latest and greatest.

Bottom line you just cant keep getting 0,1 and 2 star recruits, be the last team as far as recruiting classes and make headway. And dont trot out the handful of those guys who were great....bc for every one of those Jake Knotts...i can trot out 20 bums.

Tell the staff every scholarship goes to either an o-lineman or a D-lineman until they get it right. We're so bad we can hardly give our skill position players a chance. And enough DB's already.

Here's the issue. ISU FB is in this vicious recruiting cycle that is proving impossible to break out of. If one of my 4 boys turns out to be some 4 star recruit (obviously they won't) I can guarantee I wouldn't advise him to go to ISU unless he had 0 other offers. ISU FB is a place that offers little upside. How much easier is it to shine when you play with 10 other competent players? I don't care how good of linebacker you are, if you dline and secondary suck you are going to look terrible. Why on earth would someone choose ISU?

--I lost faith with Jamie after the Liberty Bowl. He should have given Rhoads and ultimatum at the time. We are not boys town and coddling bad coaches to be classy an extra year only furthers the misery. YOu can tell if a coach is worth his salt after a 12 game season.....this is not freaking rocket science.
I saw fat, slow ISU defensive lineman laying on top of each other while Division 2 North Dakota lineman were staring down at them.....go back and look at the tape.
Jamie is probably on the phone right now with a Wisconsin school about parachuting down to an easy retirement job....the hell with this mess.
I will admit, if we beat Iowa I will say that everything is OK.

Amen. The Liberty Bowl performance as startling, and the malaise has continued. And yes, our conditioning is horrible. Many of our players just love to eat. I was excited when Yancy McKnight was brought on staff, but just having a big shiny new weight room is not enough if work is not going on inside. UNI beat us up physically too.

First of all, how do you really slip any further than this? That's two years in a row with a loss to an FCS team. Not just a loss, but complete domination at the LOS. That is precisely where the biggest difference between FBS teams and FCS teams should be. It just isn't the case at ISU and it's been going on far too long.

Plus Lazard is a freaking wide receiver. In all seriousness, there's very little his pride is going to do in order to prevent a continual slide. He can't do everything, and he sure as hell can't solve the problems up front. That isn't going to be solved anytime soon. Hate to break it to ya, but it's the truth. If the depth was there then where has it been?
Could go 0-12 2 years in a row. Could start going 0-9 in Big 12 play every year. Things could be much worse for ISU football right now.

As Rhoads said, it isn't the ones you don't get that hurt. It's the ones you do get and don't work out that hurt. There is attrition in every program but it hurts more at ISU because we will never have enough quality depth. We need guys to be in the program for four or five years, learning and building themselves up. But we don't get that because of attrition. Young guys are pressed into service sooner than when they are ready.

First wait to comment or make any decision until the end of the season.
2nd we probably can't afford to fire CPR so you start asking a lot of questions like:
1) why is it at the beginning of every season we don't look ready to play but our opponents do?
2) why do we struggle after every bye week and most other teams improve?
3) why after years it appears we have not developed offensive and defensive line players?
4) why does this team not have an identity?

I can't think of any more right now but obviously JP needs to start asking more questions or maybe Chris Williams should start asking these questions during Monday's presser.
