Kidsilverhair what are your thoughts on the matchup with W-SR tonight?

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. My response might be too late for you to catch before the game, but here goes.

I don't know a whole lot about Waverly-Shell Rock. It looks like they have a good offense - over 330 yards per game - and their only losses were to West Delaware (always a real good 3A team) and Clear Lake (top team in 2A). They did beat Charles City by just 2 points in Week 9, and Xavier thumped Charles City on Wednesday, so if that means anything ...

I expect Xavier to win this one, not necessarily easily, but by a couple of touchdowns wouldn't surprise me. The Saints' defense is really playing tough - forced eight turnovers the last two games, and held Charles City out of the end zone inside the 10 yard line twice on Wednesday. They've only given up one touchdown rushing to 3A teams all year. Xavier's offense is not quite as explosive as it's been the past few years, and they've certainly struggled to move the ball in their losses. Judging by yards allowed, it doesn't look like Waverly-Shell Rock's D is terrifically strong, so that's a point in Xavier's favor.

The weather might be a factor, if we get the rain tonight. Xavier has started throwing the ball downfield really well the past two games, so if a wet night takes that away, they'll have to rely on the run. They've been super great rushing the ball some games, and pretty ineffective in some games. But if it's a smash-mouth ground game on a wet field, Xavier's defense should give them the edge.

From reading box scores all season, I'm happy with what Zelenovich has been able to accomplish. Go get em Ankeny! Once a Hawk, Always a Hawk!

Slightly off topic but has anyone had the chance to watch Waukee QB Ben Ferkin play this year and have any idea how he projects to the next level? Just looking at stats he had a pretty strong junior year running the show for one of 4A's best teams. 60% completions, 1500 yards, 25 TD to 3 INT in a mainly run based offense.

Dowling's first three scoring drives:

3 plays
2 plays
1 play

Putting the Baylor/Oregon offenses to shame.

BDK is usually so spot on. Guess you can't be right every time.

Anywhere you can get streaming stats for the playoff games? Seems like in 2014 we should be able to get the info updated on the interwebs...

Just saw Xavier up 24-7 on W-SR at the half

Also saw Solon up 14-12 at half on West Delaware after getting a TD on 4th and goal from the 25 yard line near the end of the 2nd quarter. Crazy

Ames quarterback is much better than Dowlings. And the score could very well be 31-21 but a bad spot in the red zone early in the first quarter hurt Ames.

That being said, Dowling is stupid good. So many weapons on offense which is why this Dowling QB probably gets the attention he does. Dowling deserves to win this game but scoreboard isn't necassarily telling the whole story. Only way Dowling doesn't win state is if they run into a freakish defense
