CLASS 4A:

Cedar Rapids, Washington vs Iowa City, West at Kingston Stadium
Dowling Catholic, West Des Moines vs Ankeny at Williams Stadium
North Scott, Eldridge @ Bettendorf
Valley, West Des Moines @ Waukee

Reposting my question from last night.

For the semifinals, since there aren't East/West brackets anymore, what's the chance the state does east vs. west in both semifinals instead of east vs. east and west vs. west?

Example - assume all home teams win on Friday. How about Dowling vs. CR Wash and Valley vs. Bettendorf in the semis? Some of you central Iowa people seem to think Dowling-Valley would be the de facto championship anyway, so how about we give them a chance to earn that opportunity?

I would support them doing this. All the teams are traveling to Cedar Falls anyway so there is no travel consideration at all in terms of scheduling the semifinal opponents.

Ill give you the first one.

But if they wanted more plays for their 2nd teamers, maybe they could've had them playing up 28 with 3 minutes left instead of bringing them in with 20 seconds left

Because their 2nd teamers were playing in the 2nd quarter! This was their 3rd and 4th teamers.

Ames quarterback is much better than Dowlings. And the score could very well be 31-21 but a bad spot in the red zone early in the first quarter hurt Ames.

That being said, Dowling is stupid good. So many weapons on offense which is why this Dowling QB probably gets the attention he does. Dowling deserves to win this game but scoreboard isn't necassarily telling the whole story. Only way Dowling doesn't win state is if they run into a freakish defense

If you honestly believe that, I'm glad you aren't identifying talent for the Cyclones. There's a reason Boyle has been a 3-year starter for the best team in the state over that period. Even got significant time as a freshman.

Last night, he was 19/24 for 199 yards and 3TD's, plus ran 12 times for 109 yards. For the season, he is 115/182 for 1,557 yards. 14 TD's vs. 1 interception. Also, the team's leading rusher at 111/822 (7.4 YPC) and 13 rushing TD's.

Yeah, Boyle is the best player in the state, and I don't really even think it's close. He may not have the best college career, but he can take over a high school game like no other player in the state can.
