So, having a NON existent running game has nothing to do with W-L record? Having a ****** OL has nothing to do with it? Learning his 2nd offensive system - SR is not the problem. The OL and lack of running game (and WR's being out) is the problem. Some of you W-L guys always pointed to the fact that GR had a .500 record so he should start....hows's that looking after yesterday?
Just shows we had a better worn out oline last year.

Agreed with those who have mentioned the importance of finding an actual program-builder/developer.

More money needs to be spent on consult firms or simply football consultants throughout the process. One of CPR's biggest downfalls outside of player development was probably leadership decisions. Placing the right assistants around you.

At times the perfect hire does appear contradictory. As in needing youth but somebody with head coaching experience. Somebody with experience but not one who is deemed an "offensive or defensive mind".

The only and I mean the only coach that is going to be successful here at ISU is a coach that is superior at recruiting and developing O and Dlines, period. We cannot nor will we ever be able to out recruit the top big 12 schools at the skill positions, ever, so what we need is a KF type, and spare me the KF crap, the guy is a Oline genius and puts more players in the nfl than any other college coach. We had our greatest o lines under MAC and that's because Steve Loney was here. Ever since he left we've had some awful line coaches and our program has been awful too.

Go hire a HC who can recruit and develop the lines and everything else will take care of itself.
Absolutely, and it is the most incriminating aspect of Rhoads tenure. Not only did his "plan" marginalize this aspect, he inherited a good, road-grading OLine and tried to make them dance. You have to have something to build on, and at ISU that is most easily the run game.

Mangino is 58. 58!!! Take a look at Bill Snyder. That guy is 164 years old and still knows how to win games. I'm all for hiring some 20-something "offensive guru" but let's be realistic. The odds of that happening and us actually succeeding with it, are very very slim.

Please don't use the name Mangino and the word slim in the same paragraph. :)

Not a bad idea when others have mentioned. Always fear the NFL taint with these guys coming back. Whether he would bring same passion in program-building at Rutgers now that he had a taste of the big show.

It'll be interesting to see if the Mike Shannahan and Michigan rumors are just that or if it ends up happening.

My vote is for Scott Frost. Young, offensive oriented, comes from Oregon with all their fancy uniforms- we would get the white helmets everyone wants!

Otherwise Schiano would be great too.

What about we title 9 it and get the Baylor women's basketball coach. She recruits "gals" way nastier than CPR gets. And she could get some size into the program???

Just wondering why you would want a coach that finished 4-8 and 1-6 in a relatively easy conference while they were in their 10th season as the head coach.

Explain.

That was his only losing season in his final seven years at Rutgers and he bounced back with 9 wins the following year. Im not sold on the fact that we need someone with head coaching experience but he would be my choice if that is direction we go. I would prefer an OC or DC with Big 12 experience.

Starting from scratch, his peaks were good enough. Could there be better fits? Sure, but he is better than bringing Rhoads back. 7-5, 11-2, 8-5, 8-5, 9-4, 4-8, 9-4.
