In case Seth and anyone else needs a tease. And this is over two years ago. He's grown a lot. Dude is an energizer bunny, like Edozie, he just keeps running and hustling. while I don't see him shooting a lot of threes if he's allowed to and does well crap just as well start the final four talks. But I agree with others in that if he can provide a defensive spark, affect the rim defensively and score 6-8 pts and grab 6-8 reb a game well then I'm all good.

It's funny how Tuco has no clue what he's talking about but he talks like he does. I'm not going to pretend like I know exactly what's going to happen since this is his first crack at big boy basketball. If he's effective down low he could command attention from defenders, which could free some guys on the outside for a kick out. And there is no doubt he will be a huge asset on the defensive side of the ball as well as O and D rebounding.
I have no clue what will happen, either. I can just see why Greenberg would say what he did. ISU has their offense humming pretty good right now. Messing with the engine can sometimes result in a step back for a bit. Luckily, we'll all find out soon enough.

If instant impact means making one of the All-Big 12 teams, I agree with Greenberg.

McKay is a nice player and he gives us some more length, thus helping to improve something that has hurt us in the past. He isn't a take over the game type, even on defense, but he still could be a difference maker with just having a small impact. We beat UConn last year if he comes in to help defend Daniels with Georges out.

Fred said after last night's game he expects McKay to have a tremendous impact when he returns. Hopefully he follows Greenberg on Twitter so he can adjust his expectations and game plan.

If McKay is just a 6'9" version of Hogue, then we're going to get deeper and better.

He doesn't have to be the next Kelvin Cato (lottery pick) for him to contribute.

He's long. He's athletic.

I see no way this doesn't enhance our team, even if the fans have built up expectations too high (which they always do).

If I had to guess, I'd venture that Greenburg's source is an old Marquette coach. Obviously something didn't mesh between McKay and that staff for him to want to transfer out so quickly. Perhaps they just didn't know how to utilize him, and it made him look incompetent in their eyes. Fred seems to expect good things out if McKay, therefor I do too.
If I had to guess, I'd venture that Greenberg's source was himself after he watched ISU practice. Guys that call games swing by and watch practices all the time. They are college basketball junkies with unrestricted access to wherever they want to go. He is confirmed to have been at a practice earlier in October: http://cyclonefanatic.com/basketbal...nd-seth-greenberg-agree-isu-could-be-special/

Yep lets just have him sit 35 feet from the basket so he is out of the way, or better yet how about we enact the old 6-6 rules and he isnt allowed to cross half court. I did hear about this new offense they are running out west called a pick and roll. I am not too familiar with it but I think it may be promising.

Yep just make him play all time defense for the sake of spacing. Also he's a threat to score as soon as the ball crosses half court when Monte throws the lob!

Yeah, I bet Fred doesn't know how to incorporate an athletic 6'10" forward into the offense. Go Huskers...oops it's December...I mean go Jayhawks.
He's grown to 6'10" now? That would explain the 8'6" wingspan reported here earlier.

Ya, anyone following what is coming out of the mouths of Fred, Matt A and Mann, knows that they think he's going to be good.

Rothstein has had A LOT of good things to say about McKay. Rothstein's source is Matt A. Those two went to college together.

Our coaches aren't idiots. They're not setting him up for failure if they don't think he'll immediately contribute. They didn't hype Tsalboris and Edozie.

McKay will have tremendous impact. We are small without him. We only have two legitimate bigs (Georges & Edozie). Adding another 6'10" player who can move? Yes, please.

Here is what I think it is funny. McKay has been sitting on ISUs bench for a year now. To think the CFH and disciples haven't figured out how to use him effectively yet is really underestimating a group that has found a way to use every piece at their disposal since they got here. Is McKay a completely different player than ISU has had under Hoiberg, yes he is, but he isn't unknown to him. It isn't like he has sat in a chair at every practice since he got here.

That said, he will be rusty, cause practice and cap city league are not the B12, so it may take few games until we see a huge impact, but I am sure Fred has already come up with way for him to impact the game.

I think its obvious... Fred doesn't have a ******* clue what hes talking about. Greenberg watched a practice 2 months ago people... I mean that was like 2 hours on some random day. Clearly dude has his finger firmly on the pulse of Cyclone Basketball; way more than Fred.

He nearly doubled Hogue's production when they played together at Indian Hills. Why would anyone get excited about his potential impact. I mean, what has Hogue done?

Good point, and remember that Rothstein tweeted really good things about Hogue prior to last season. He gets legit info, straight from out staff's mouth.

Those guys know better than Greenberg and twocoach as to what we have with McKay.

The real key will be that we don't always have to double the post now. We can play 4 out with McKay anchoring the middle, which should improve some of the issues we've had with late rotations on the 3 shooter.

This is what I have been thinking for several games now. It seems like Fred has been calling for doubling the post even against posts who aren't a real offensive threat. I know they say it is to create turnovers and quicken the pace, but teams have scorched ISU with a lot of open looks from 3.

So you think he's going to have a major impact on defense playing around 10 minutes a game against the other team's 2nd unit?

Seriously, Tuco; no offense, but watch some more ISU games. Edozie is no world beater, but he is ISU's most improved player this year and his minutes this year have definitely not been against the second team.

If you add McKay who needs to be close to the rim, then you add McKay's defender close to the rim as well. Suddenly spacing the floor to open easy drives to an unguarded rim is nullified. If you take McKay and send him out to the perimeter to pull his man out there then you have a guy that basically is guaranteed not to be guarded which leaves his defender free to basically play center field and wit to block shots. Suddenly, the "five guys that can score from anywhere on the floor" goes out the window. McKay will be a big help on defense but he will bog down the offense at least some.

McKay doesn't have to be on the perimeter to effectively occupy the other team's big. Fred puts his fifth player in "his house" which is deep on the baseline (behind the basket even) opposite side of the ball. If a big is going to leave him to stop the drive he is open for the pass and dunk. But if as you say he goes out to the perimeter and the opposing big doesn't want to come out, then Fred will have him screen all over the arc. Without a big to help and hedge on the screens ISU will have open shots from 3 as well as drivers inside to take the shot or to pass to cuts on the baseline. They will also have an incredibly athletic big crashing the offensive boards with no one blocking him out.

There is more than one way to skin a cat.

Put him on the perimeter where he is a 0% threat to score and then wonder why he can't get to many rebounds. There you go...

Someone is getting nervous about Iowa State owning the Jayhawks this year... and it is showing. :wideeyed:

I really hope he has a fast start. I have a feeling that if he has a similar first couple games to Nader, people may give up on him too soon. Maybe that is what he is trying to say. The fans are building up too big of expectations.

Absolutely. Nader even said something to the effect that even though you're practicing, games are different and it takes a little time to get back in game form. Could easily be the same for McKay and it may be January before we see the real McKay.

I see Fred Phelps decided to stick his stupid *** opinions into yet another thread where there aren't needed or wanted. Mods, please neuter this moron. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say this.
