I like to think I'm usually leery of overhyping players, but I'm fully aboard the McKay hype train. He's going to be great at offensive rebounding and can block shots, two of ISU's weaknesses.

So you think he's going to have a major impact on defense playing around 10 minutes a game against the other team's 2nd unit?

What? No, and you really suck at logic.

Even though we dont often go 5 out, McKay could hurt the spacing. A lot easier to double, crowd passing lanes, help, and hedge when there is a guy that is not good at shooting or dribbling. That said, Fred is a master at dictating matchups. I think it will be similar to our offense with 2011-12 Ejim-White, and I could see limiting how much Hogue and McKay play together.

Virtually every player in the country has an impressively edited highlight reel from JUCO/AAU/high school. I don't even bother to watch dumb stuff like that.

True that everybody looks like an all-star in those videos, but they do show some general skills. While McKay is definitely a more traditional post player, his jump shot isn't terrible. I don't expect him to shoot from outside a lot but you don't have to be a three point specialist to draw people out of the lane. If he shows he can hit a mid range jumper or the occasional three, that will be enough to draw people out if we need to space the floor. It's not like he's Shaq or something big bruiser underneath. Hogue is a prime example, not a fantastic shooter, but he can hit the shot so the other teams defense has to respect that to some extent.

I'm sure Fred just took the guy because, you know, transfer.

DeanTwocoachvogs is trying way too hard.

He is going to be great in hoibergs system, but I would guess it won't get there until half way through the big 12 sseason. He hasn't played in a long time and it will take some time to get back in the flow.

How can adding a very athletic 6'10 post who runs the floor well, giving ISU a much needed boost in size and depth be concerning? I think people will be surprised at just how good McKay will eventually be. His presence alone puts two very important players back to their natural positins, Niang and Hogue. There will be rust no doubt but after 4-5 games the rotation will be set and conf time will roll around with a legit 9 man rotation and a bench that will be the most productive bench in the CFH era.

It won't take that long. 3-4 games. Same as it took Nader. JM didn't just forget how to play bball. He's the only two time juco AA in what 10 years. Dude has skills.

In case Seth and anyone else needs a tease. And this is over two years ago. He's grown a lot. Dude is an energizer bunny, like Edozie, he just keeps running and hustling. while I don't see him shooting a lot of threes if he's allowed to and does well crap just as well start the final four talks. But I agree with others in that if he can provide a defensive spark, affect the rim defensively and score 6-8 pts and grab 6-8 reb a game well then I'm all good.

I like how in some recruiting profiles, McKay was listed at 6'8", but now he's 6'10" on this board. Why not just bump him up to 6'11", maybe even 6'12".

:jimlad:

(I am aware that 6'12" is 7')

No kidding. People he's 6'8 maybe 6'9. Quit with the 6'10 stuff.

Remember that time Fred Hoiberg added a JUCO All American to the team and it hurt ISU.

Yeah, Greenburg sounds like an idiot with that. Say he might take some time, Hoiberg doesn't play players who hurt ISU...he very rarely even recruits them...maybe Bluford is the only recruit I can think of that actually hurt the team and even he basically never got in the game.

Did the Warriors talk to Greenberg, Kerr and Hoiberg but Seth turned them down?

Dont try to have a serious discussion with trollcoach. He's not here for that. He's here to derail any thread that doesn't have to do with kansas.
