I wouldn't say that their resume's are only marginally different. MD beaten only 1 other team in the top 150. That is a key number for the committee and for the pollsters. They have played a grand total of 3 teams in the top 150. Barely beat 3 150 plus teams, And got to prepare primarily for ISU the whole month before they played them.

ISU on the other hand has played 3 teams in the Top50 and 5 teams in the top100, and blown out everyone else. And had 2 top 100 teams right before the played MD.

On the whole ISU's resume is considerably better. And they ISU had 2 guys puking the day they playd head to head. Its an easy decision for just abou everyone except Seth and troll coach.

Sorry fellas but there's a whole lotta group think going on here. If the tables were turned there would be multiple threads here attacking the pollsters for ignoring head-to-head results. Let's not turn in to a whiny fanbase that puts practically everyone on a ban list. But we've already done that, haven't we? Carry on....

You guys have dogged Iowa all year and now they're a "good win"? Too funny. They are barely in the RPI Top 100 and will be well out of it once they start losing nightly in the Big Ten. I'll bet Iowa has seven losses by the end of January. Georgia State has ONE win against teams in the RPI Top 150 and it was against Green Bay, who I still can't figure out how they are in the RPI Top 100 let alone Top 5. Arkansas? OK. But isn't a win over Iowa State more impressive than a win over Arkansas?
Kinda funny that you were pumping up Iowa just a bit before we played them and now you are dogging them.

Maryland lost at home to #6, ISU lost neutral to #17. ISU has better resume outside of those games. Maryland's next best win is Arizona State who is not as good as Iowa, no matter how bad Iowa they turn out to be, not to mention that was a neutral game to ISU's road game without two of the top six players. Plus Arkansas. Easy choice IMO.
That's like considering the KU-Utah game in KC to be a neutral site.

Further proof that Seth Davis is clueless. I don't think Iowa will be back to defend their play in game loss. They're back in the NIT.

wouldn't be surprised to see them back in the First Four @SI_Stephens: Where do you see Iowa at the end of the year?

I like when voters vote based on what has happened rather than what they think might happen. They beat us on a neutral court. Until they lose again or we do something special I have no problem with them being ahead of us. I don't consider beating Iowa as special on a national ranking level. I'm not convinced Iowa is very good at all. I watched the UNC game and both teams looked like Drake.

And you're totally entitled to that opinion, but most voters don't agree with that. As it stands now, Iowa is ranked 29th by KenPom and ISU was the underdog in that matchup. Home court is huge in BB and any win on the road is weighted heavier. It's even heavier when said team was receiving votes for the top 25 at the time. I can guarantee you that win will be flashed across the screen as a selling point in March because it occurred in December, on the road and one major contributor/one potentially large contributor down for the game.

I know it gets mentioned in every poll thread, but why the hell do you guys care that much about a couple spots either way in DECEMBER.

There are so many more conference wins and losses to come. Yes, we're ranked, so it's obvious we're getting noticed. No, we're not top 5, so we're not elite level yet... So who the hell cares.

Well, Iowa State has something Maryland doesn't: a true road win against a power 5 team that also owns a true road win over another power 5 team in the top 25. I'd say that stands out a bit considering how difficult it is to win on the road against power 5 opponents. It also helps that particular power 5 team was receiving votes for the top 25 as well.
They beat a team that beat a team that... just stop. So Kentucky beating Carolina is unimpressive (according to those on this site in another thread) because Carolina is vastly overrated and has no business being ranked but beating Iowa who beat Carolina IS impressive because Iowa beat Carolina, who is an impressive, ranked team. Yuck.

Do you consider road games against Kansas State and Iowa State as true road games? Proximity wise, they're well within driving distance. Do you count Big 12 tourney games as neutral floor games even though they're in KC?

Regardless if you do or not, the committee and the AP do.

Will it be flashed across the screen as a selling point even if Iowa ends up in the NIT as most people here expect they will?

We've been on the lower ranked side of this situation for years, that is why I'm satisfied with arguing we deserve to be ranked higher since we are.

Let's fire up the CBS Team Comparison. I really like using this to compare RPI wins/losses.
http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/bracketology/team-comparison

ISU 8-1
3 top 50 wins (2 home, 1 neutral)
1 top 50 loss (neutral)
1 100-199 wins (ha I didn't realize Iowa was 114 RPI!)
4 200+ wins (all home)

Maryland 10-1
1 top 50 win (neutral)
1 top 50 loss (home)
5 100-199 wins - 4 home, 1 neutral
4 200+ wins (all home)

Obviously this only looks at RPI, but I don't see any reason ISU couldn't be ranked higher than Maryland. ISU has the best win (Arkanas is 19, ISU is 25) and 2 other better wins; Alabama and Georgia State.
