I'm a fan of ranking teams based on what they've done over how good they are projected to be, otherwise why play any games? We are clearly better than Maryland imo, but they beat us and have similar results early on. We'll pass them in time . Also, Wisconsin and Wichita st should be ranked lower based on what they have done so far.
Then you cannot rank anyone until about a month or two into the conference season because everyone plays wildly different non-con schedules. And by that logic, Wisconsin would be ranked below Kansas since Kansas has more quality wins than Wisconsin. Even I think that's ridiculous. And for the record, ISU passed Maryland weeks ago in the polls after they lost to Virginia.

I already posted in this thread Kansas should be above Wisconsin.
And I know Isu is above Maryland in the rankings I'm not a moron lol, was just arguing that Seths point isn't extremely outlandish

The only outlandish thing is putting Kansas above Wisconsin. KU's resume is better but they are not a better team. The polls aren't a list of who has the best resume. They have other computer based rankings for that. And I agree that Davis' point isn't outlandish at all. I don't agree with it but it's not outlandish.

What is this magical penalty you are talking about? Who is assessing it and what are they assessing it to? And did you struggle with my easy math that showed that ISU is 100% guaranteed to not have less than 50% of their games against RPI 150 or better at the end of the non-con season? 6-6 IS 50%, not LESS than 50%. Good grief.

The penalty is assessed by the official RPI calculation. YOu know the one that the committee uses as its primary foundation for seeding the tournament. ***** about the RPI all you want, but until the committee quits using it as their primary seeding tool, that Is the first thing that I am going to look at.

And perhaps I wasn't clear in explaining, but my math is perfect. I've been employed by 6 different power 5 schools. The rule is that the SOS calculation adds a penalty for teams that play less than half their non-conference games against RPI top150. As in 50-50 is acceptable. ISU will be 50%. test passed. Maryland not so much.

And I'll agree, that his view alone isn't outlandish. What is outlandish is thinking that the other 99% of the people who matter are way off base because of one game that he is clearly hyper focused on. I don't have a problem with him having that head to head short sighted view. I'm just finding it incompetent to call the rest of the world out for thinking its outlandish for 99% of the world to rank on the big picture and the whole body of work.
