SC is kinda cream puff though. This isn't a good team we played by any means.

That's what everyone said about Maryland. Frank Martin is coaching this team. I give him credit for shutting down our three ball and dictating tempo. It's a shame the NCAA allows teams to get away with mugging, but that's the current culture of college basketball.

South Carolina is good? Is it their losses against Baylor, Charlotte, and Akron that make them good? They play aggressive defense and a deep bench. That's all I can really say. Bad bad game, and a horrible loss by ISU.
You forgot to mention their 26 point win over okie st, **** brick! But hey, I'm not saying this was a good loss. it wasn't. Was pathetic.

That first 5 five minutes of second half was big. We had all the mo at halftime, they came out poor in second half and we did same thing.

We do not do well against physical teams. Not a good recipe for tournament success.

I love this team, but we need to get more mentally tough against these types of teams.
Did not get much help from Niang, Monty, Matt, Abdel, BDJ this game. Hogue and McKay showed up. We were slow and lethargic. What did they feed our team in NY?

Iowa state has beat no one good. Arkansas and iowa are terrible. Arkansas has only beat one team from a power conference and that was wake forest. Iowa beat unc and Ohio state but neither of those teams are great either. ISu fans dipped into the kool aid a little to early this year

Maryland and USC games have two things in common...ice cold shooting (the 2 worst in the Hoiberg-era) and low assists. More concerning about tonight was that we looked out of sorts all night long. No rhythm on offense. We are certainly not a Top 10 right now, but a lot of season left.

With all the gestures on the court, and doing poses after made shots, that speaks to immaturity.
I think Kane's age was a big difference last year.

Were we really doing that? If so, Fred has to put a stop to that crap IMO. I don't mind having a little fun when you're up 25 pts with 4 mins left like at Iowa, but in a tight game like this, just shut up and play ball.

We do lack discipline. It's been my only problem with Fred's teams thus far.... too much talking and celebrating. I think a certain amount is good because it keeps the guys fired up, but when it gets too the point it's affecting your play, it's just stupid.

Hogue was like 4/11 from the free throw line. That's not really showing up.

Poor shooting night and a great defensive plan by Frank Martin. These losses happen. This won't be a "bad loss" come tourney time so I'm semi-okay with it. We do need to integrate McKay into what we do in the half court though. He seemed to be interfering with our flow and spacing a bit tonight.

Frank totally out-coached Fred. We looked disorganized in the half-court set and can't create O unless in transition.

Thoughts...

Twocoach may be right they lost before conference to SDSU at home and that turned out well for them

Who played worse George or Naz? Surprised we went with Hogue down the stretch over BDJ, Hogue couldn't throw it in the ocean!

Really liked Mckay's game tonight although his defense wasn't that good.

Still think we finish close to same record in conference maybe a game or two worse I'd say 6/7ish seed with our bad non-con.

Thanks for your input. I'll bet you were one of the same ones saying that about ISU last year at this point too, right? And then we went on to win the Big 12 Tourney and make the Sweet Sixteen.

This team will be just fine, and will do just as well as last year's team or better IMO. MUCH better than your Hawks will do, that much is for certain.
